In 1945, the Eighth Route Army came to Zhuanghe, and 18-year-old Tian Chengren was the first to sign up for the Eighth Route Army's Cultural and Labor Corps. In 1946, Zhuanghe was liberated, and the 19-year-old Tian Chengren was sent to the Baishan Art School to study drama.
Later, Tian Chengren went to Dalian with the school and joined the Luda Literary and Art Work Troupe (the predecessor of dalian repertory theatre). Here, he rehearsed and performed plays such as "Look Away", "Mother", "Sixteen Guns" and "The White-Haired Girl" that reflected the struggle against the War of Resistance.
In 1954, the Central Academy of Drama held the first batch of directing cadre training classes, and Tian Chengren, who was already the deputy head of the Liaoning Repertory Theatre, was selected to come to Beijing to receive training from Soviet theater experts. After graduation, he stayed in the Central Experimental Drama Theatre and has since appeared on the drama stage.
While constantly polishing himself on the drama stage, he also starred in many movies such as "Red Rain", "Severe Course", "Spring Sleep Is Not Aware", "White Scarf", "The Girl from Huangshan", etc., but these movies did not bring him more opportunities.

Until 1984, at the age of fifty-eight, he won the Outstanding Actor Award of the Chinese TV Drama Feitian Award for his wonderful performance in the TV series "The Tao is Ruthless but Sentient".
