Greece and Cyprus are currently dealing with hot weather, where temperatures reach over 40°C. In Greece, extreme heat has led to the forced closure of tourist attractions and schools after reaching 43°C. Last year, record-breaking temperatures sparked deadly wildfires.
In Cyprus, as temperatures are also expected to reach 43°C, the government has issued a yellow alert and will issue a fine for anyone who ignites a fire outside.
While such temperatures are unusual on Mediterranean islands, year-round suns are a regular feature in other parts of the world. Especially in a country where there is a city that is so hot that you can see birds falling from the sky to their deaths, these areas even have air conditioners installed on the streets.
The highest temperature recorded at the Mitribah weather station in Kuwait reached a staggering 54°C. The lack of moisture causes the sandstorms to become more intense year after year, making the feeling of heat even worse.
