Some comrades were very unhappy when they saw me give a lecture on "the history of the People's Republic of China" and left a message saying that reflecting on history is not objective and that they should "touch their conscience and ask themselves." In fact, there is no factual basis for nonsense to mislead the reader, and that is sin. It's the irresponsible people who spit on the spot:
First, without Deng Xiaoping's advocacy of emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts, would they have the freedom to pick up the bowl and eat meat, put down the chopsticks and scold their mothers?
Second, if we do not reflect on and summarize the history of the first 30 years of reform and opening up, where did the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics come from?
Third, if we do not completely negate the mistakes of the "Cultural Revolution," where will today's reformed and opening up moderately prosperous society come from?
Fourth, if we do not abolish the rigid system of the people's communes and large collectives, where will there be a system of household contract responsibility and a flexible system of diversified operations?
The 30-year history of the founding of the People's Republic of China is just past yesterday, and without serious reflection on yesterday, there will be no today, let alone the future. Today's career is the continuation of the unfinished business of the predecessors, and only by understanding yesterday can we grasp today and have a brilliant tomorrow. Otherwise, the mistakes of the past will be repeated, and the tragedy of history will be repeated.
