On May 17, the Philippine Coast Guard announced that it had found a Sierra Leonean merchant ship with seven Chinese crew members in Philippine waters and was investigating a number of violations in Philippine waters.
After learning of this news, the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines attached great importance to it, immediately activated the emergency mechanism, learned about the verification situation from the Philippine Coast Guard, requested that the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese seafarers be fully protected, and sent personnel to the relevant ports to visit Chinese seafarers, communicate and understand the situation, and provide necessary consular assistance. The Philippine side said that it would actively cooperate with the Chinese side to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese crew members and fairly handle the violation case of the ship in accordance with the law.
At present, 7 Chinese crew members are in good health. The Embassy will continue to follow up on the matter closely and urge the Philippine side to investigate the situation as soon as possible and properly handle it in accordance with the law.
