In the early 20th century, David Evans Strickler, a trainee pharmacist, worked at Tassel Pharmacy in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. During his time at Streiler, he often came up with ideas that would attract customers to buy them, but the invention of the banana boat turned out to be a turning point in his career.
In 1904, at the age of 23, Streiler developed an alternative way of marketing ice cream. He put strawberry, vanilla and chocolate ice cream in the middle of a cut banana and sprinkled it with chocolate sauce to make it "Banana Split", which is also the original name of Banana Boat Ice Cream. At that time, bananas in the United States had just been imported from other places to the East Coast cities, and people were full of strong curiosity about this tropical fruit, and the soft and sweet taste of banana boat ice cream immediately triggered a craze among nearby college students.
Streiler, who had a successful career, later bought the pharmacy and renamed it Streiler Pharmacy under his own surname. Soon, the popular banana boat became a money printing machine that everyone wanted to imitate. As a result, the banana boat ice cream sailed from the pharmacy in Pennsylvania, causing a wave of imitation throughout the United States, and also sailed to the world, landing between the mouths of the world.
In the city of Letrobo, where the pharmacy is located, a grand celebration is held every year to commemorate Streiler's invention of banana boat ice cream, and various tributes are shuttled through the process, such as wearing a yellow commemorative shirt, dressed as a banana man, riding a banana boat ice cream float, and the whole street seems to be sprinkled with double chocolate sauce, and even the air adds the sweetness of the past.
