The Youth Years Wrapped Up in War - High-scoring Anti-War Movie "Our Fathers"

German movies, a series of three episodes, split into TV series should be good. The story probably tells the turning point of life during World War II, at the beginning, everyone had expectations, worries, and enthusiasm, but with the further fermentation of the war, everyone's concept of life trajectory has changed a lot.

Five protagonists, three men and two women, Lieutenant William and his brother, nurses about to enter the military doctor, Jewish tailors and girlfriends who want to be singers. At the beginning of the war, the William brothers went to the front, and the five of them got together to say goodbye and agreed to meet again at Christmas, but the next meeting was four years later. Since the five were very happy at the time, they played music that was banned by the government at that time, attracting the Gestapo, and the story began.

First of all, William and his brother, whose father was clearly a supporter of the government, may have experienced the humiliation of World War I and later the economic crisis in Germany, but Hitler came to power but saved the German economy. William, as the eldest son in the family and had made meritorious contributions in the battlefield, was very popular with his father, while the younger son was not very popular with his father. Maybe it's because the two don't have political differences, or maybe it's because of their cowardice as younger brothers.

William had always taken care of his younger brother in the army, and his brother did not like the war, he knew that sooner or later the war would be lost, and that war would only show the ugliest side of a man. William envied his brother's humor and erudition, but on the battlefield, because of his brother's passive response to the battle and deliberate exposure caused casualties in the troops. Some of the other soldiers had long been unable to look down on his brother's style, but because his brother was good at war and became a lieutenant, he did not bother him. But that deliberate exposure of positions for smoking completely angered the other soldiers, and his brother was squashed. William was outside the house at the time, and he knew what was happening, but he didn't stop it immediately, it was war, and any good thought in his heart was a time bomb around them. He hoped that this time his brother would wake up, and his brother did not disappoint him. The loss caused by a provocation finally made this angry brother understand that there is no good or evil in war, only survival.

William had always been an optimistic man who believed that the war could be won, but as time went on, as more and more of his comrades around him died, he discovered that he was wrong. The last time they were on the battlefield, there were no more tanks and bombers to support them, and they needed to trade their lives for a location that didn't matter. When everyone died, he chose to flee. When the younger brother thought he had been killed, he didn't, he was only temporarily buried, and when he wanted to find him alone, he could only sneak into an enemy tank that was scrapped. This moment of peace made him feel the meaninglessness of the war, and he wanted to flee. In fact, there was a very wounded enemy soldier in the tank, already dying. As he lay dying, he asked William for a sip of water, and William handed him the water bottle, and the man returned it to him after drinking. At this moment, the two did not seem to be the enemy and the enemy who hated each other deeply, but two strangers together, one was thirsty, and the other wanted a sip of water to quench his thirst.

William fled the battlefield and came to a dense forest where he encountered an abandoned hut. So he had a moment of silence, but unfortunately the good times did not last long, and soon he was arrested and returned, and with some other deserters, he did the lowest aftermath work, fishing for corpses, burning houses, laying mines, and so on. Dead are dead, because when they decide to leave the Empire, they have no value to the masters of the Empire, but their lives still belong to the Empire. William said that at first he fought for the sake of the country, but later found out that it was not, just for his comrades, and when his comrades died, he had no motivation to fight.

William's brother had a strong anti-war sentiment at the beginning, but when he died a tragic death as a comrade because of his willfulness, he finally understood that there could be no mercy in war. At first, out of pity, he tried to save a captured Jewish girl, but was stopped by the Gestapo. At first, the Gestapo did not say that he did something wrong, but was kind enough to give the little girl a piece of chocolate, but before the little girl could eat it, the Gestapo shot her in the back and killed her. The Gestapo let his brother know that he himself was incompetent.

The younger brother began to blend in into the war and began as a real war machine after that beating. There is no right or wrong in war, all you have as a soldier is to live. When the recruit asked him why he had become like this, he replied: Don't treat yourself as a human being. The recruit asked again, why did you survive. He replied, because I want the people around me to fall. At this point, the younger brother became a real killing machine, and the good young man who originally had ideals and beliefs was gone, and some were just soldiers, soldiers who knew how to kill people and how to survive. Regarding the personality of William's younger brother, in fact, there are many foreshadowings in front of him, his father's taunts, and his brother who almost killed himself because he did not dare to shoot at the beginning as a recruit. But in less than half a year, he had become a good soldier and was used to the life of a soldier. Originally, he could rest at home with his wounds, but chose to return to the battlefield. Although William's brother became a qualified soldier, he did not become a beast exactly as he said, and when he met his tailor friend on the battlefield, he still let him go, and because of the tailor friend, he ended up killing the girl's Gestapo.

Regarding the Jewish tailor and his girlfriend, they were just ordinary civilians, but under the war, no one could retreat completely. When Berlin began to deal with the Jews, the tailor's girlfriend volunteered to give herself to a major in charge of Berlin's security, and she became his lover. She thought she could help the tailor escape from Berlin to the United States, because the major promised to help her boyfriend. The fact is that the tailor was targeted and taken to the concentration camp when he intended to escape at the agreed time, all done by the major. The Major took the tailor's girlfriend and took the tailor's life. And the poor woman thought her boyfriend had left Berlin for the United States, though she had never heard from him.

The Major gave the tailor's girlfriend a chance to become a singer, and she was happy because it had always been her dream. She didn't know that she was just a plaything for the Major and had no value in itself. Even if she later became a big singer, she was just a plaything for the major. When she thought she could use her own child as a bargaining chip, the Major punched her hard in the stomach. Then she was thrown into the cell, and the person who entered that cell ended up with only a dead end. That's right, in the end the tailor's girlfriend died.

The tailors, who were to be sent to concentration camps, were unexpectedly rescued and mistakenly joined a group of Polish guerrillas. The Poles, though they hurt the German soldiers, did not want to see the Jews either. Although he initially doubted the identity of the tailor, he was soon confused by him and his friends. Later, when the partisans hijacked a German transport train, the tailor revealed his identity by saving the other Jews on the train. Fortunately, the guerrilla leader at the head let him go, and it was precisely because the guerrilla leader let him go, and he was saved when the guerrilla was served by a pot.

The last thing to say is that the original innocent nurse girl, the nurse likes William, and of course William likes him. But William knew that he was a soldier, and that life and death were only a matter of a moment, so he did not confide in himself, and deliberately avoided the nurse's love. Nurses have gone from the original vision of the current sacred work of saving lives and helping the injured, to nervousness and later numbness. The younger brother thought his brother was dead and relayed the news to the nurse, who was seriously injured, but fortunately the bullet was still two centimeters away from the heart. The doctor only made a cursory examination and concluded that his brother could not be saved. However, at the request of the nurse, he was saved, and the nurse gave his body to the doctor out of gratitude after learning the bad news of the death of his sweetheart.

It turned out that she could have an affair with the doctor, because the rules were that she could not have feelings with the wounded and the doctor. Until she saw William again in the ambulance center, when William walked towards her and hugged her, she first cried with joy. Then as if finding something, pushed him away and ran away, and she felt that he was dead, so he chose the doctor, but now he was back. She became unsure of what to face, and the war destroyed everything. When the Soviets were about to enter their hospital, she was abandoned by others, including the doctor, because she wanted to find her partner.

The story ends with the three people meeting in a separate bar, and the five people in the photo when they left have become the three people they are now. When the coalition invaded Berlin, the younger brother chose to resist and was killed. He knew that when he chose to become a German soldier, he had no way out, he was a pure man, and it was impossible to live with flaws. Unlike the mischievous major, who after the Coalition invaded Berlin, he chose to be a friend of the Coalition and help find the missing people, and most of the so-called missing people were secretly captured by him, and some were even killed by him.
