According to the physical packaging released by retailers such as GameStop and Best Buy, the physical version of Ubisoft's new game Assassin's Creed: Shadows, like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars: Outlaws, requires an online download of the Day 1 patch to install and start playing.
It's worth noting that according to the game's PSN store page, Assassin's Creed: Shadows also says "Online play required", which means that players need to be connected to the Internet for the entire time to play, and it's unclear if it's a bug or something else.
