Chen Yong, a native of Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County, 54 years old this year, led the establishment of the Yulu Volunteer Service Center in 2016, and has developed nearly 800 members so far, with a total of 2,000 volunteer services, 56,157 hours of service, 3 million yuan of funds, and more than 10,000 beneficiaries.
Love is "established" by love
Chen Yong was originally an ordinary farmer in Liuzhugou Village, Qinglong Caonian Township, who made a living by farming and doing odd jobs on weekdays.
When the daughter was six years old, the happy family of four was hit by a hospital examination report that showed that the daughter had epilepsy. The child's condition is that he will smoke when he is said to smoke, and he will have the disease several times a day, and he has to pinch the middle of the person every time to relieve himself. At that time, Chen Yong decided to leave his hometown and move to the county seat to rent a house. The reason why I rented a house in the county is because there are many job opportunities in the county, so as to save money for the treatment of the child, and I specially rent a house near the hospital to send the child to the hospital in case of illness. Chen Yong found a sanitation job in the county, and took care of his daughter after work.
Chen Yong heard from a friend that Peking University First Hospital could treat children's diseases, and in order to raise 150,000 yuan for the operation, he borrowed more than 10 yuan from relatives and friends, and raised 47,000 yuan through the society, and finally successfully completed the operation. However, there are still a lot of costs for follow-up medication, and Chen Yong is facing both mental and economic pressure, and is deeply trapped between helplessness and hesitation.
"Don't be afraid, with our big guys, your business is our everyone's business, face it together." One morning, a group of sanitation colleagues came to Chen Yong's home and gave him cash, rice, noodles, oil and other condolences.
"I feel so warm to have the help of well-wishers in times of difficulty, I am full of strength, the great love of the society, and the help of my colleagues have touched the string in my heart." Chen Yong introduced that the selfless help of raising money for his daughter's surgery gave him the courage to take the next step, and he had a puzzling idea to set up a volunteer service team to pass on the love, help those in need, and let others feel the warmth of the society. "We are very touched that you think so, and support you!" In April 2016, Chen Yong told his colleagues and classmates about the idea of forming a team, and with everyone's support, a Yulu volunteer service group composed of more than 10 people was established. Due to lack of resources and experience, the service team is weak, and only helps those in need to do what they can, one, five, ten...... In this way, he won the hearts of the people, infected others, and his team continued to grow, and many caring people joined it. With more people and more funds, Chen Yong has more confidence in volunteering.
Because of love, "fraternity" love
Due to the continuous participation of caring people, the strength of the group has grown, and Chen Yong wants to give the group a better "identity" to expand its influence. In September 2017, Chen Yong registered the Yulu Volunteer Service Center on the Hebei Volunteer Service Network; In December of the same year, Yulu Volunteer Service Center joined the Qinhuangdao Timely Rain Volunteer Service Alliance. In 2018, he joined Beijing Fuxin Public Welfare and established Beijing Fuxin Public Welfare Qinhuangdao Service Team. In 2019, the Qinglong Manchu Autonomous County Yulu Volunteer Service Center was registered and established, and officially developed into a large-scale volunteer service team of more than 600 people.
"Chen Yong, I want to eat water tofu, I haven't eaten it for a long time, and I can't make it myself when I'm old." During a volunteer service event in 2018, when Chen Yong was chatting with an elderly person in the village, the old man proposed that he wanted to eat Qinglong's water tofu. Chen Yong immediately arranged for the team members to purchase ingredients and make them on the spot, satisfying the old man's desire to eat water and tofu. It was this experience of a small tofu feast that gave Chen Yong a lot of inspiration.
Water tofu is a special delicacy of Qinglong, almost every family will make it, everyone loves to eat, especially the elderly, who have eaten water tofu for a lifetime and have a deep affection for it. But when the elderly are old, it is really difficult for the children in the countryside to be absent from their side because they go out to work. "Why don't you hold a large tofu feast and let the old people around sit together and eat tofu?" In this way, on the National Day of 2018, the Yulu Volunteer Service Center held the first large-scale love tofu banquet at the base, and gathered the nearby widows and left-behind elderly people to eat water tofu, rice and steamed dumplings with large fillings. The scene was full of joy, and the old people all had smiles on their faces, and Chen Yong still remembers it vividly. Until this year, the center has held more than 100 love tofu banquets and dumpling banquets.
Respecting, respecting and loving the elderly is the traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, and the center will help the lonely, widowed and left-behind elderly as one of the key tasks, regularly going to the homes of the elderly to cut nails, haircuts, free clinics, etc. "You have always contributed to the country, we learn from you and pay tribute to you." In 2018, the center launched the Caring for Veterans Action for the first time, striving to let veterans get more care and respect from the society, so that the members of the center can learn from veterans and inherit and carry forward their heroic dedication. As of this year, a total of 102 veterans of the Anti-Japanese War have been visited.
Respect the old and love the young. On April 20th, the "Love in Qinhuangdao ̇ Eight Years of Rain and Dew" Charity Helping Students Public Welfare Activity was held as scheduled in Lido International Hotel, and all the donations, auction proceeds and donated materials were donated to the "Poverty Alleviation and Education Foundation" to send support and help from the society to poor students.
Chen Yong introduced that his daughter had been helped by caring people from all walks of life when she was sick, and the rain and dew volunteer service would also spread love to the children. To this end, the center has concentrated its efforts on donating money to schools and caring for left-behind children. According to incomplete statistics, at present, the Yulu Volunteer Service Center has carried out more than 1,000 student aids, funded 300 students in difficulty, and helped many students to be admitted to universities, one of which was admitted to Nankai University with the first place in the county since 2017. In terms of caring for left-behind children, the center has cooperated with Yanshan University to launch the "Keep the Smiles of Children in Mountainous Areas" volunteer teaching and "loving companionship" activities. Help guide left-behind children to form a healthy and sunny attitude towards life, and cultivate their positive spirit and sense of responsibility.
Love is "continued" by love
It is with the support and help of caring people from all walks of life that the pace of Yulu's volunteer service has never stopped. Over the past eight years, under the leadership of Chen Yong, the center has done a lot of work in donating money for education, caring for veterans, helping the poor, caring for the orphaned elderly, caring for left-behind children, etc., not only to carry out services in the local area, but also to extend the tentacles of love to Sichuan, Shandong, Yunnan, Gansu, Guizhou, Heilongjiang and other remote areas, to drop love rain and dew into the hearts of everyone in need, so that people there remember Qinhuangdao, a city of love.
