Chinese bookstore Yanyilou store "Old Books and New Knowledge Lecture Hall" preview: the past and present life of Hongenguan

author:Beijing News Network

At the north end of the central axis, the Hong'en Temple, which has been closed for many years, was finally repaired and arranged last year. This is the closest it has come to its original appearance in more than 60 years.

It used to be a Buddhist temple, and later it was changed to a Taoist temple. It had a close relationship with the imperial court and also opened a primary school in the midst of the trend of temple production. After the 50s, Hongenguan was the site of the second factory of standard parts in Beijing. In the 90s, the factory moved out, and it turned into a crowded compound again. Most people have heard of Hongenguan because it has been a bell tower vegetable market since 1995. Young people know about the Hong'en Temple, either because of the high-end club in the main hall, or because of the "miscellaneous family" space in the mountain gate hall.

Zhu Qipeng, the chief architect of the Magical Architecture Research Laboratory, has been paying attention to Hongenguan since 2012. For more than a decade, it has been the subject of his documentation and research. When the restoration of the Hong'en Temple was completed, he curated a permanent exhibition about the history of the Hong'en Temple in the apse: "The Hong'en Temple: The Story of a Beijing Temple".

This is a challenging task: how to place people's memories of the past in the face of the renovated temple, and what kind of exhibition can become the key to the future of Hongenguan.

We invited curator Zhu Qipeng to introduce us to this unusual exhibition and how they peel back into the depths of history to retell the story of a temple.

The old neighbors of the Houmen Bridge and the Bell and Drum Tower,

Come to Hongenguan to listen to Zhu Qipeng!

Teacher Yang Liangzhi's recommendation:

Zhu Qipengjun, a young architect too! His name is now connected with the Hong'en View behind our bell tower. Finally.

Since 2012, he has been closely following and researching the concept of grand grace, clarifying its past, peeling back the cocoons in the black hole of history, watching it re-emerge step by step from the clutter of garbage, and meticulously crafting "The Story of a Temple in Beijing......

With such a large ground in Beijing, experts like Mr. Zhu Qipeng who are meticulously devoted to a project and a project are too valuable! Isn't it common for a group of buildings, or even a street, to be lightly dropped and smeared?

May 18 is World Museum Day. Beijing is known as the city of museums today!

May our countless museums not only have their appearances and be glamorous; More importantly, there are rich historical materials one by one, and fill in the appropriate content. Compared to the two, I would rather be sparse from the surface and strict with the inside.

When I was a child, I ran around in the Hongenguan Temple and met my friends, and later I bought something with my family in its vegetable market, and now it is open, and on May 18, I can listen to Mr. Peng's details, and my heart is excited! I hope to meet up with more new and old friends that day!
