In history, what is the story of Wang Shuizhao?

author:The Man in the Iron Mask interprets historical figures

Mr. Wang Shuizhao is a literary historian, a master in the field of classical Chinese literature, and a well-known expert in the study of Song Dynasty literature.

Professor Wang Shuizhao is a well-known expert in Song Dynasty literature, who studied in the Department of Chinese of Peking University in his early years, and was taught by famous literary and historical scholars such as Lin Geng and Wu Group. After graduating in 1960, Wang Shuizhao joined the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and helped Mr. Qian Zhongshu compile the Tang and Song Dynasty sections of the History of Chinese Literature. Since 1978, he has been teaching in the Department of Chinese at Fudan University, where he has made remarkable achievements in the field of Su Shi studies.

This is a photo album of my own family, introduce a few photos, this is a whole photo of all our 55 classmates in August 1960, this photo is now quite precious, I myself is also a very cherished photo, why, because this is the last photo of the teacher and classmates after five years of graduation when we graduated, the result of our learning from the teacher, the teacher's age was actually only forty or fifty years old at that time, forty or fifty years old should be in the prime of life, but our teachers have reached the peak of academics at that time, One is Mr. Lin Geng, Mr. Lin Geng's dress in the fifties has always been more chic, when he was young, he was also a very famous poet in Tsinghua Garden, so he retained his unique demeanor and poetic temperament. In 1955, after the adjustment of the faculties, the famous teachers of the Chinese Department of Peking University gathered and the lecture style of the poet Lin Geng was the most popular among students. Mr. Lin is a poet, he has insight into poetry, has his own unique understanding, and he is also very handsome and charming, so he is very able to capture the hearts of his classmates in class, and he listened to the seniors in the previous class say that he once finished the class, and after the class, one of the female classmates returned to the dormitory and cried, and asked her why, she said that she would not hear Mr. Lin in class from now on. In 1957, at the end of the course on the history of literature in the Tang Dynasty, at the request of the students, Lin Geng taught the artistic analysis of poetry. The title is called "Speaking of Wooden Leaves", talking about the two words "Wooden Leaves", "Wooden Leaves" is a very important image in ancient poetry, "Chu Ci" said that the curling autumn wind, Dongting Ripple Wooden Leaves, is the source of this "Wooden Leaves", and later for example, Du Fu's poems, Boundless Falling Wood Xiao Xiaoxia, because "Wooden Leaves" has become a fixed image in the poem, this "Falling Wood" Everyone knows, not to say "Boundless Falling Wood", there are many trees in the sky that have fallen, no, Boundless Falling Wood Xiao Xiaoxia, It's just that a lot of leaves are falling. So what is the truth of Mr. Lin Geng, that is, there is only one word difference between leaves and leaves, it is the same thing in the conceptual world, that is, the trees have fallen in autumn, it is the same concept, but there is a very big difference in the art world, "leaves" give people feelings, artistic feelings and leaves give people the feeling is different, so in the art world, the difference between this leaf and the leaf is a word, it can be said that it is a thousand words. At that time, our classmates listened very fresh and very convinced, and I remember that after the lecture, everyone applauded, and Mr. Lin was very happy. This atmosphere of joy and harmony was soon dissipated by the upsurge of criticism of bourgeois academic thought, and Lin Geng and his "Speaking of Leaves" also became the focus of criticism of the students' big-character posters. Today, Wang Shuizhao's students may no longer understand what great criticism is, and once it became the object of criticism at that time, it was a very serious matter. In 1958, he began to criticize Konoha, saying that it was a bourgeois art analysis, a formalist art analysis, and did not highlight any class views, and I remember that three students in the second class wrote a 15,000-word article and published it in full in the "Literary Heritage" supplement of Guangming Daily at that time, which was a very serious matter at that time. Later, some classmates probably asked Mr. Lin what he thought of our criticism, because Mr. Lin himself also posted a big-character poster, and everyone was welcome to criticize, so I asked him, so Mr. Lin still couldn't fully agree with this criticism, and he also said a sentence, he said that your classmates can break or not. The poet's straightforwardness aroused the enthusiasm of young people, and they decided to collectively compile a history of Chinese literature in the shortest possible time, planting the red flag on the front of literary history research. After this decision was announced, many students had actually bought tickets and wanted to go home, and they had to go home during the holidays, and they were tired throughout the semester. There was a notice in the corridor, everyone signed, who wanted to participate in which group work, look at the signatures for themselves, the names of the Song and Yuan groups were relatively small, and they signed in to the Song and Yuan groups, and they were still very naïve, thinking that they could write a literary history that truly represented the proletarian point of view. Wang Shuizhao later recalled that a group of young students wrote a 3,000-year-old history of Chinese literature in 30 days by themselves, which was a kind of fanatical and blind confidence in the name of revolution. How did this more than 30 days come about, and now it is a little vague, anyway, it is done day and night, everyone does not dare to take a breath, and the meal is in a hurry, so in the process of writing, there will be such a situation that one day is a continuous battle for 48 hours, this situation is unimaginable for people who are engaged in writing work. At that time, 48 hours was mainly transcribing the manuscript, and in the second half of the night, while writing, I fell asleep, and the next day I saw that what I wrote was, I was going to the dining room to buy food, and this word was written, and it was written in a daze. As the writing progressed, the students gradually felt their own lack and ignorance, but this did not shake their confidence in that era when the ignorant were fearless. This is Mr. Wu Guanyi, who was teaching opera novels of the Song and Yuan dynasties at the time, and the characteristics of their two teachers are, one was originally a poet, and the other was a novelist, so when teaching in class, they are the two teachers who are the most able to be called, and we miss the two teachers very much. The first edition of the history of literature is run through by three perspectives, one is the so-called realism and anti-realist struggle, which runs through the entire history of literature. second, folk literature is the mainstream; The third is to insist on class analysis and political standards first, so Mr. Wu Guanyi put forward, this is not right, the mainstream of Chinese literature is writers' literature, is literati literature, of course, writers' literature should draw nourishment from folk literature, from the people's oral creation, but the people's oral creation can not become authentic, because at that time the working people had no rights, he did not have the right to master the text, he did not have any works, it was impossible to become a mainstream. The classmate retorted to him, we say that folk literature is the mainstream, we hold class feelings, hold feelings for the working people, and the writing of literary history is not a simple academic work, but should be combined with the transformation of our own thoughts and feelings, which is directly stabbing him, and then Mr. Wu Guanyi said that if we talk about class feelings and working people's feelings, this kind of feelings are also very naïve. In the climate of 1958, the teachers of Peking University were still able to stick to their own views, which I felt was not easy. This discussion on the standards of literary history writing ended with the victory of the students, and the originally tense teacher-student relationship has become antagonistic. Once, we had a grade assembly in the corridor, and Mr. Zhou Zumo said at the meeting, "I am now engaged in scientific research through my classmates, and I have a very great consciousness in my thinking, and I will continue to transform my thinking and move forward under the leadership of my classmates in the future." The words have been said to this point, and it has been said that the relationship between teachers and students is very abnormal, but after this was said, there was such a discussion among the students, saying that Mr. Zhou was not right, not under the leadership of the students, but under the leadership of the party, to transform the thinking and continue to move forward, and to be so critical of him, which shows that the relationship between teachers and students at that time was quite normal The relationship between teachers and students was distorted in some cases. On the eve of the National Day in 1958, the "History of Chinese Literature" signed by the 55 class students was officially published. He elected us as an advanced collective for the construction of socialism among young people in the country, attended the congress of the Chinese Writers Association, gave us many honors, and went to the Great Hall of the People to speak as our student representatives. There are a lot of newspapers that report on our collective work, and there is a lot of media coverage. After the history of red literature came out, he once sent a copy to Marshal Chen Yi, and Marshal Chen Yi had a handwritten letter to us, and he said, thank you for the kindness of the book, I read a few sections and thought it was very good, congratulations, this salute, but later after a period of time, I heard Comrade Chen Yi at a meeting in the literary and art circles, a recording of a speech, he said, Peking University's "History of Literature", they gave themselves a copy, I began to read a few sections of Tao Yuanming, they actually did not scold Tao Yuanming, I was so happy that I wrote a letter to congratulate them, but after reading it more, I criticized them too much, which was not right. So, after listening to the opinions of all parties, the students fought for another four months to write the second edition of the four-volume History of Chinese Literature. The second edition is very different from the first edition, the first edition of literary history students and teachers are in an opposing position, and students stand in such a posture of criticizing the teacher; The second version of us is combined with the teacher, so each paragraph, we are divided into six groups, each group has a teacher to participate in the guidance, then our Song Yuan group is two teachers, one is Wu Group teacher, one is Wu Xiaoru teacher, this is Wu Xiaoru teacher, although he is an old lecturer, but the foundation of knowledge is very thick, his real name is Wu Tongbao, at that time he was just a lecturer, but he has a very close personal relationship with himself, this is himself. At that time, after his manuscript was finalized, he sent it to his Wu Xiaoru's house and asked him to correct it, which was actually correction, because the teacher could correct it, and then he said when he would come to your house to pick it up, and Teacher Wu said that you don't want to pick it up, I will ride a bicycle and send it to your student dormitory. After I finished processing a batch of manuscripts, I asked him to correct them there, of course, he sometimes revised them directly, and sometimes put forward some opinions, asked us to change them again, and then he sent them back, so he basically went through the manuscripts of Song Dynasty literature himself, which not only established a very deep teacher-student relationship with Mr. Wu, but also Mr. Wu's attitude towards learning also had a deep impact on himself.
