Great love! Law School students successfully donated hematopoietic stem cells

The hematopoietic stem cell donation was successfully concluded, and the teachers and students of the Law School praised Xiaoyu

Jingchu Network (Hubei Daily) News (Reporter Shen Sufen Correspondent Hao Tian Gao Suying) "Ready to start!" After the separation by the machine, we will extract the stem cells that we need. On May 11, in Wuhan Central Hospital, Xiao Yu (pseudonym), a graduate of the Law and Business School of Hubei University of Economics, was lying quietly on the hospital bed, donating hematopoietic stem cells and sending the seeds of life to a leukemia patient he had never met.

"It is worth it to give what you can to make a life continue!" Xiao Yu said.

In December 2019, as a college student, Xiao Yu learned at a volunteer service lecture organized by the Youth League Committee of the Law and Business School of Hubei University of Economics that donating hematopoietic stem cells can save the lives of patients with blood diseases. Soon after, he volunteered to leave a blood sample through the blood donation vehicle on campus and became a volunteer of the China Bone Marrow Bank.

It wasn't until January this year that he received a call from the Honghu Red Cross Society, learning that the HLA typing of hematopoietic stem cells he had entered the bank four years ago was consistent with the initial screening of a hematological patient in Guangdong, and that it was the most suitable among several donation candidates, and asked him if he was willing to donate hematopoietic stem cells.

Xiao Yu said that he was both nervous and excited when he received the call, because among people who are not related by blood, the success rate of this type of matching is only 1 in 100,000 or even 1 in a million, and in such a low situation, being able to match the success of the donation itself is a miracle of life.

"I didn't expect that one day, four years after leaving blood, a miracle would happen. After consulting with my family and getting their approval, I quickly made the decision to donate, which I felt was an instinctive reaction. Xiao Yu said.

Since then, Xiaoyu has standardized his work and rest, getting up early to exercise, exercising at night, controlling his diet, and always preparing for donations. After more than a month of waiting, he received an official notice and was admitted to Wuhan Central Hospital on May 6 and hematopoietic stem cell donation collection on May 11.

After learning of Xiaoyu's donation, Xiaoyu's university counselor, Mr. Long Yijun, rushed to the hospital early in the morning to accompany him throughout the whole process and cheer him on. During the epidemic, he participated in volunteer services such as epidemic prevention and control organized by his hometown and school many times, and was awarded the honorary title of "The Most Beautiful Epidemic Prevention and Control Volunteer" by the Honghu Municipal Civilization Office, and also won the school-level scholarship and school-level "one-star volunteer".

"In the eyes of our classmates, Xiaoyu is a lively and cheerful, enthusiastic, optimistic and helpful good classmate. During college, he was the rights committee member of our class, and he would help everyone if there were any difficulties in his classmates, as long as he could do what he could. Zhao Yang, Xiaoyu's dormitory classmate during college, commented on him. Zhao Yang now works for a company in Shanghai, and took an overnight train ride to Wuhan to accompany and visit Xiaoyu.
