As our living home, the earth has a variety of geographical environments such as mountains, rivers, straits, and islands. In this issue, we will introduce the four major rivers, four major straits and four major islands.
First, the four major rivers
The four major rivers are: the Nile River in Africa, the Amazon River in South America, the Yangtze River in Asia, and the Mississippi River in North America.
1. The Amazon River in South America
The Amazon River, located in the northern part of South America, is the largest river in the world in terms of flow, basin and tributaries. Since the length of the river is inconclusive, there are many different versions of the length of the Amazon, one of which is the common 6,400 km.
2. The Nile River in Africa
The Nile River is a river that flows through eastern and northern Africa and flows into the Mediterranean Sea from south to north. Along with the Congo River in Central Africa and the Niger River in West Africa, it is one of the three largest river systems in Africa. At 6,670 km long, the Nile is the longest river in the world.
3. Yangtze River in Asia
The Yangtze River, which belongs to the Pacific Ocean water system, is the largest river in China, and the main stream of the Yangtze River runs through central China from west to east, with hundreds of tributaries running from north to south, with a total length of 6,363 kilometers. The Yangtze River is the mother river of the Chinese nation and an important birthplace of Chinese civilization, known as the "golden waterway".
4. The Mississippi River in North America
The Mississippi River is the largest river in the United States and the fourth longest river in the world, with a total length of 3,767 km, and is the longest flowing, the most extensive and the largest river in North America.
Two: the four major straits
The four major straits include: the Strait of Malacca, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Strait of Magellan, and the Bering Strait.
1. Strait of Malacca
The Strait of Malacca, located between the Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, is managed by Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Malacca is an important international trade and transportation port in modern times, connecting the international waterways connecting the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean, and for Japan, China, and South Korea, it is the most important energy transportation channel, and is known as the "maritime lifeline" of the East.
2. Strait of Gibraltar
The Strait of Gibraltar, located between the southernmost part of Spain and northwestern Africa. Due to its strategic and economic value, the strait was used by Atlantic navigators in the early days and remains an important navigation route through the Atlantic to southern Europe, North Africa and Western Asia.
3. Strait of Magellan
The Strait of Magellan, located at the southernmost tip of the South American continent, is surrounded by islands such as Tierra del Fuego, and is the most important natural shipping route between the South Atlantic Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean.
4. Hakurei Strait
The Bering Strait, located between Cape Dezhniov in Russia at the easternmost tip of the Eurasian continent and Cape Prince of Wales in the United States at the westernmost point of the American continent, connects the Arctic Ocean, the Chukchi Sea and the Bering Sea, and is the dividing line between Asia and North America.
Three or four major islands
The four major islands are: Greenland, New Guinea, Kalimantan, and Madagascar.
1. Greenland
Greenland, located in the northeast of North America, is one of the largest Danish autonomous territories and the largest island in the world, with an area of about 2.17 million square kilometers, and more than 80% of the entire island is covered by ice sheets.
2. The island of New Guinea
The island of New Guinea, also known as Irian Island, is the largest island in the Pacific Ocean and the second largest island in the world, second only to Greenland, with an area of about 786,000 square kilometers.
3. Kalimantan
Kalimantan is the third largest island in the world, with an area of 743,300 square kilometers, belonging to the tropical rainforest climate and lush vegetation.
4. Madagascar
The island of Madagascar, located in the southeast sea of the African continent, is the fourth largest island in the world, with an area of 587,000 square kilometers.
