"Butterfly Dad" Yang Zhenwen and his team recently brought tens of thousands of butterflies, spanning 2,560 kilometers and bumpy 3 days and 2 nights, from the deep mountains of Jinping County, Yunnan Province to Shanghai Changning. On May 11th, "Butterfly Dad" was full of knowledge and dreams, and came to the Lvba residential area of Xinjing Town to carry out a unique popular science activity.
Located in Ma'andi Township, Jinping County, Honghe Prefecture, "China Red River Butterfly Valley", a total of more than 320 species of 11 families in 12 butterfly families have been discovered, which is the only gathering area in China and rare in the world, so it is called the "Butterfly Museum" hidden in the mountains, and Yang Zhenwen, director of the Butterfly Valley Museum in Jinping County, is affectionately called "Butterfly Dad".
At the scene, Yang Zhenwen first described to the students the annual butterfly outbreak is brewing in Ma'andi Township, Jinping County, and hundreds of millions of butterflies are waiting to break into butterflies. "There are only two places in the world where this happens. One is in faraway Mexico, and the other is in Jinping, the hometown of butterflies in China. Yang Zhenwen told everyone that the survival of butterflies is inseparable from a good ecological environment, and his hometown Butterfly Valley is a green water and green mountains with more than 70% forest coverage.

In order to let the children understand the wonder of the butterfly explosion and feel the magic and beauty of butterflies, Yang Zhenwen used a video and skillfully interspersed six interactive questions to stimulate children's interest in learning and in-depth thinking. "What is a butterfly explosion?" "How do you monitor the timing and number of butterfly outbreaks?" "Why is there a butterfly explosion?" "What's the value of a butterfly explosion?" …… Those who answer correctly will receive a butterfly specimen created by children in the mountains.
Surprisingly, Yang Zhenwen was accompanied by some special "guests": butterfly eggs, larvae, chrysalis and adult butterflies, which constitute a "walking" butterfly museum. In particular, the sparse Nanshan vine, like the "jewelry box" of Mother Nature, is full of butterfly chrysalis of different shapes, showing the various stages of the butterfly's life cycle, including crystal clear butterfly chrysalis like agate jade, and golden chrysalis shaped like droplets. Turning over the leaves, there are also black chrysalis shedding their shells, and caterpillars wearing "striped shirts......
Children were both surprised and frightened to see so many chrysalis, caterpillars and fluttering live butterflies for the first time. With Yang Zhenwen's encouragement, the children gradually dared to put the caterpillar in their hands and have a close contact with the caterpillar. "It was my first time touching caterpillars, and I was a little scared at first, but then I found out that they are actually very cute, and I really want to take care of these little creatures." The short-term popularization of science quietly planted the seeds of ecological protection in the hearts of children.
It is reported that during the theme activity of "Butterfly Thousands of Miles Meet in Changning" held in Changning District and Jinping County, Honghe Prefecture, Xinjing Town actively carried out exchanges with Jinping County on biodiversity conservation through the method of "inviting in and going out", not only organizing volunteers from the Habitat Garden to visit the exhibition on Yuyuan Road, but also inviting Jinping butterflies into the Green Bale Yi Habitat Garden, so that community residents can enjoy the "elves" from the mountains up close and witness the cocoon into butterflies. Jinping County donated butterfly chrysalis and butterfly specimens to the Habitat Museum in Xinjing Township.
This time, the "Butterfly Daddy" was invited to the Green Eight Community to hold a popular science lecture, which cleverly connected the two places thousands of miles apart, so that the children in the city had the opportunity to feel the wonder of nature and understand the importance of protecting the ecological environment.
