A smile is a beautiful language

Before planning to travel abroad during the Chinese New Year and travel to Indonesia, my wife and I were always nervous. I am not only looking forward to this beautiful and mysterious "land of a thousand islands", but also worried and troubled about the encounters that may arise in the future.

Indonesia is located in the tropics, what to do if the climate is hot? What should I do if I am not used to eating? What should I do if I don't understand the language? In a hurry, we tried to learn a few simple Indonesian phrases in order to cope with embarrassing situations in the future. For example: "Hello", "Good morning, good night", "Please, thank you, goodbye" and so on. Fortunately, the Internet is developed, and as soon as you open your mobile phone to search, videos of teaching Indonesian abound.

Following these video exercises, we quickly learned a few words to pronounce. I found that the Indonesian word for greeting is the prefix "salam". Salam is a greeting term for Muslims, which means "Hello" and means "Allah bless you." It turns out that Indonesia is an Islamic country with the largest Muslim population in the world.

It is said that there are more than 300 dialects spoken in Indonesia's population of 230 million. Bahasa Indonesia is officially the first language spoken by the majority of Indonesians. Bahasa Indonesia belongs to the Austronesian language family, with the Latin alphabet as the phonetic script, a total of 26 letters, a loud pronunciation, smooth grammar, beautiful tone, and relatively easy to learn. Originally, Bahasa Indonesia was popular in the northeastern part of Sumatra and has more than 80% homology with Bahasa Malaysia, which can be said to be a variation of Malay. Later, in the process of evolution, Indonesian absorbed words such as English and Javanese and gradually became fixed.

The Indonesian teaching videos on mobile phones are lively and engaging. The anchor teacher also uploaded a video of a beautiful woman singing an Indonesian song. That beauty looks beautiful, her voice is lingering and compassionate, it is really tender and fascinating. The song is called "Love Him", which is about the heart of a lovelorn girl. said that although his heart cheated and chose someone else, I still love him and pray that he will always be happy. The beautiful melody, the aftermath lingers, and the people are thrilled to listen to. Hehe, it turns out that Indonesian beauties are so gentle, beautiful, and affectionate. This adds to our yearning for Indonesia.

In this way, day after night, I learned to speak Indonesian. From time to time, a few Indonesian words pop up to liven up the atmosphere at home. But after all, it's a foreign language, and people only learn to pronounce it when they're older, and they're still reading it in the front, and they're forgetting it in the back. provoked my wife to laugh at me for stumbling, like a parrot.

Just as the Spring Festival of the Year of the Dragon is approaching, we finally set off. Crossing thousands of mountains and rivers, the plane arrived safely at Jakarta Airport, the capital of Indonesia. That night, my niece-in-law, who works in Indonesia, arranged for us to have dinner at Sentosa Seafood City in Chinatown. The family is reunited to celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

A smile is a beautiful language

The driver who was in charge of receiving us was Master Xiao Zhao, a third-generation Chinese in Indonesia whose ancestral home is in Mei County, Guangdong. With him coming forward to communicate and arrange, order, greet, and deal with it freely, we immediately felt at home. After a sumptuous seafood feast, we went to Chinatown and the seaside pier with a strong festive atmosphere. I couldn't suppress the joy and excitement in my heart, and I couldn't help but write a poem:

Thousands of miles flying to Jakarta,

The Year of Fire and Ice Sentosa.

The spring of the coconut city is infinitely good,

The Tang people dragon leap and enjoy the sand duck.

"Sand duck" is the Indonesian pronunciation of "I". It can be regarded as touching the scene, singing casually, and it is fried and sold. The food, the beautiful scenery, the exotic scenery, the colorful, the dazzling, it is simply beautiful, just the amorous Indonesian beauty in the Indonesian teaching video.

We really got to see the beauty of Indonesia on a plane from Jakarta to Bali. These stewardesses are all picky and beautiful. In particular, the flight attendant who was in charge of our side of the service was tall, round and jade, with bright eyes and a charming smile, which was a typical image of Indonesian beauty.

The Indonesian guy sitting next to me was obviously fascinated by her demeanor. As soon as he saw the flight attendant passing by, he wanted to talk to her for a few words, and she always answered very politely. The two talked softly in Indonesian, of course I don't know what they were talking about, but I also envy this Indonesian brother, who can make beautiful women happy, and his journey should be very happy, right? Finally, the stewardess came in with a food cart and asked me in English, "Sir, tea, coffee?" I replied, "Coffee." She handed me a cup of coffee. I felt that these Indonesian flight attendants were well-trained and elegant, reflecting the excellent quality of hospitality of the Indonesian people.

Actually, when I arrived in Bali, I realized that my idea of learning Indonesian was a bit unrealistic. The island of Java, where Jakarta is located, is mostly inhabited by ethnic Javanese, who usually speak the Javanese language and follow Islam. Bali is the only Hindu region in Indonesia, and the vast majority of Bali's residents are Balinese and Hindu. At this point, it would be a bit inappropriate to speak to them here with words with Muslim terms.

At the Bali Castle Hotel where we stayed, the waiters were all local Balinese. I occasionally tried to say a word or two in Indonesian with them, and they all looked confused and dazed. I might as well communicate with them directly in English words, or simply gesture with my hands. Listen to their usual interactions with each other, maybe they use the Balinese dialect, or maybe they don't understand my Indonesian pronunciation because it is not standard?

Bali's tourism is romantic and mysterious. During the day, we visited Tanah Lot Temple, Lover's Cliff, and Internet Celebrity Beach. In the evening, my niece-in-law took us to a seaside restaurant to taste seafood. It is said that the owner of this restaurant is also a wealthy Chinese businessman, in addition to business, he opened a restaurant he likes, and he does not promote it to the outside world, and it seems that he is very "Buddhist" in catering, and ordinary people can't find where his store is. Sure enough, my niece and son-in-law drove and took us through the twilight, turning around like a very remote countryside, and after several groping and exploration, we finally found this restaurant. After getting out of the car, I found that the parking lot was already full of all kinds of cars. It's really "good wine is not afraid of deep alleys", everyone is admiring it.

It was the second day of the Lunar New Year, and it happened to be the second sister's birthday, and her daughter and son-in-law specially customized a birthday cake for her. Everyone gathered together to wish the second sister a happy birthday and a happy new year! Seafood delicacies are served one after another. My niece-in-law said that we were a little late, and some dishes such as lobster and sea crab had already been sold out. We hurriedly said, "It's okay". But fortunately, the dishes served by the waiter are very stylish and fresh. The hall was full of guests, and it was very lively.

I went to the sink next door to wash my hands and saw that the table next door was full of Indonesians. While they are eating directly with their hands, they are talking and laughing, they are probably relatives and friends gathering here, right? At this time, another waitress came to serve the food, and when I saw her thin figure, big eyes, dark skin, and busy appearance, I couldn't help but say to her: "Delemagasi (thank you)!" Unexpectedly, the woman turned around, folded her hands, and said to us: "Shama, Shama!" (no thanks)". For a while, the Chinese at our table cheered and clapped their hands. Haha, she understood. It seems that I didn't learn Indonesian in vain. Even the wife next to me was amused by my practice.

In the early morning in Bali, the sea breeze blows strongly and is pleasantly cool. The rainy season in Indonesia is from November to April. Often the monsoon rain blows, and the air appears fresher. We slept until dawn, got up and went for a walk outside, and the Balinese people we met nodded and smiled at us, or said to each other in English: "Hello, Moming!" "I feel that the Indonesian people are very gentle and friendly, and at this time, everyone really doesn't need many polite words, and a smile is the most beautiful language.
