"We specialist nurses have more autonomy to help patients solve their problems, and we're happy to have them say 'thank you.'" On May 11, on the occasion of the 113th International Nurses Day, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University held a "5.12" free clinic for specialist nurses. Ms. Zou and Mr. Wei, two "old friends" of the Chronic Wound and Ostomy Care Specialist and the Diabetic Foot Care Specialist, came to the scene to thank the team of angels in white who had taken care of them, said the angels in white.

Qiu Yihong, director of the nursing department of the hospital, introduced that the hospital vigorously develops specialized nursing, and currently has 16 specialized nursing outpatient clinics, 25 visiting specialist nurses, and an annual nursing outpatient workload of more than 20,000 person-times. The specialist nursing team continues to explore the connotation of the nursing profession, broaden the radius of nursing services, and promote the development of new quality productivity.

The diabetic foot care team of the Department of Endocrinology treats the patient

To heal the "wounds of body and mind", it depends on technology and patience

Ms. Zou, a 34-year-old patient after cervical cancer surgery, has known her for nearly four months, and whenever Wu Xianrong, deputy chief nurse of the chronic wound ostomy specialist nursing team at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, recalls the scene when Ms. Zou first visited the hospital to change dressings, everything is vivid, "She cries so loudly that the whole building can hear it." ”

It turned out that Ms. Zou was discharged from the hospital for two weeks due to preoperative chemoradiotherapy and malnutrition, and was later referred to a chronic wound ostomy specialist.

At the first visit, the nurse team found that Ms. Zou's lower abdominal wound was dehiscence, accompanied by a large amount of necrotic tissue, and there was a lot of oozing. "The wound on the surface is about ten centimeters, but the inside is full of ulceration." "Patients are very nervous, so when changing dressings, we try to be gentle and reduce the frequency of dressing changes by using portable vacuum suction technology. ”

After more than 3 months of careful care, Ms. Zou's wound has basically healed, and her mood has changed from panic and anxiety when she first changed the dressing to now she can relax and cooperate with the treatment, and even be able to take care of herself at home.

It is understood that at present, the chronic wound ostomy care department of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is one of the earliest specialized nursing clinics in China, which has been opened for nearly 23 years, and more than 2,700 patients come to the outpatient clinic every year for chronic ostomy wound care consultation or treatment, with an annual consultation volume of 4,000-5,000 cases.

Wu Xianrong introduced that chronic wound and stoma care not only requires the nursing team to have professional and skilled skills, but also needs to pay attention to the psychological care and humanistic care of patients, so as to reduce the pain of patients as much as possible, improve the quality of life of patients, build confidence for patients, and finally return to family and society.

Keeping the foot and saving the life, the specialist nurse releases energy

Like Ms. Zou, Mr. Wei, a diabetic patient, is grateful to the hospital's specialist care clinic. "Nurse Mai Lifang helped me save my foot and my life, and when I thanked her, she was very happy." Recalling that in 2017, he had osteomyelitis due to a diabetic infection and almost had his leg amputated, Mr. Wei expressed his gratitude to Mai Lifang, deputy chief nurse of the diabetic foot nursing team of the Department of Endocrinology and Medicine of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

"At that time, my right foot was red and swollen, and the wound on the sole of my foot occupied the first half of the palm, and I could see the bones, which my family did not dare to see. When he was hospitalized, the doctor said that the infection was serious and that he would have to amputate his leg to save his life. "I was in my 50s and couldn't afford an amputation, so I asked around if there was a way to save my leg." ”

Subsequently, Mr. Wei was transferred to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University.

After more than three months of hospitalization and weekly outpatient debridement care, Mr. Wei was able to save not only his right foot but also his life. In the past 7 years, Mr. Wei has regularly visited the Diabetic Foot Care Clinic of the Department of Endocrinology, "Nurse Mai not only told me how to take care of my feet, but also my family members told me one by one, which was really careful. Under the careful care of the nursing team, Mr. Wei has basically returned to his normal life.

Mai Lifang said that the hospital's diabetic foot specialist nursing team has explored a "whole-process integration" diabetic foot patient care model with Yatsen's characteristics, continuously improving the quality of nursing services and greatly improving the prognosis of diabetic foot. Under their careful care, some diabetic foot patients who have continued to fester, cannot heal and are at risk of amputation, have achieved good results, and many of them can achieve self-management of their conditions and continue to improve their quality of life.

"5.12" Specialist Nurse Free Clinic Activity

Explore "more possibilities" and dig deep to widen the radius

In addition to the chronic ostomy wound specialist nursing team and the diabetic foot nursing team, on May 11, the hospital also organized nursing teams in multiple fields, including breast rehabilitation nursing, intravenous therapy and catheter nursing, to carry out the "5.12" specialist nurse free clinic activity.

Qiu Yihong introduced that in recent years, the hospital's nursing strength has been continuously improved, its influence has continued to increase, and with the support of the hospital, the nursing team has also continued to explore "more possibilities". Since 2001, the hospital opened its first specialized nursing outpatient clinic to provide patients with systematic and professional nursing services, and has cultivated batches of nursing talents with specialized nursing qualifications.

Guided by the needs of patients and broadening the radius of nursing services, the hospital has provided patients with "Internet + nursing services" since 2021, and provided door-to-door nursing services for patients with reduced mobility through "online ordering and offline services", expanding the radius of high-quality nursing services and enhancing the people's sense of access to medical treatment.

The nursing team also actively carried out health lectures and free clinics. On average, 60 health science lectures and 90 special topics are held every year, nearly 100 people participate in the lectures and consult experts, and more than 5,000 people are educated. Since 2019, the hospital's nursing department has produced a total of 266 health education videos and issued more than 130,000 "health education prescriptions".

It is reported that compared with ordinary nurses, specialist nurses have more autonomy in treatment, "under the review of doctors, we can prescribe some drugs to patients, can give patients a good treatment plan, help them solve problems, our specialist nurses sense of achievement and satisfaction comes from this." Wu Xianrong said.

It is understood that the general registration fee for the nursing clinic of specialist nurses is 10 yuan, but the cost of specialist nursing technology is not priced. "Because of feelings, love, so insistence." Qiu Yihong said, "In the future, we will continue to provide the best quality care with the most professional team, explore more possibilities of nursing in the new era, provide patients with professional, high-quality and intimate nursing services, continue to write a heart-warming nursing story, and bloom the power of the nursing profession!" ”
