The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has once again explained the difference between violations by Chinese swimmers and the Valieva case. "Every possible case of contamination must be evaluated and validated to determine if it is consistent with the poor results of the sample...... In the case of Chinese swimmers, this has been scrutinized, and there is no evidence that they have been doped. All the evidence supports the claim that food is contaminated. ”

It is reported that in January 2021, 23 Chinese swimmers were tested for doping, and the results showed the presence of the banned drug trimetazidine in their bodies. This is the drug found on the disqualified Russian figure skater Valieva. At the time, WADA supported China's anti-doping agency decision and did not exclude the athletes involved from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and took place from 23 July to 8 August 2021. The Chinese swimming team won three gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze medal at that Olympics.

In particular, all positive test results were in the low or very low concentration range, the athletes involved were also tested more than once, and test results fluctuated between positive and negative at low concentrations every few hours.

In Valieva's drug case, Valieva claimed that the banned drug trimetazidine had entered her body indirectly through a strawberry dessert made by her grandfather, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) later found that the athlete's explanation was seriously flawed in evidence. WADA also questioned Valieva's claims at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics at the time.
