The reporter learned from the Daqi Street Office of Beilun District, Ningbo City: This morning, Yao Guanrong, a musician and Veteran Chinese conductor whose ancestral home is Beilun Daqi, Ningbo, passed away in Shenzhen at the age of 85.

Yao Guanrong, a national first-class conductor and composer, was originally from Zhenhai, Ningbo (now Daqi Subdistrict, Beilun). Born in Wuhan in 1936 to a poor family, he moved to Shanghai with his parents and was admitted to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1954.

According to Professor Shen Haojie of the School of Music of Ningbo University, who has long studied the culture of the "Ningbo Gang", Yao Guanrong was the first conductor sent to Study in Europe after the founding of New China, and also one of the founders of Chinese film music conductors, who has conducted more than 200 film music, such as the familiar "Tunnel War", "Southern Expedition to the North", "Wildfire Spring Wind Fighting Ancient City", "Beloved Premier Zhou Immortal", etc. Among them, the well-known "Tunnel Warfare" has set a Guinness World Record for the number of audiovisual people.

After the reform and opening up, Yao Guanrong, as a music pioneer and "bellwether" in the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, led the creation of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and was the first Chinese musician to lead the Chinese orchestra to the Berlin Philharmonic Hall and the Smetana Concert Hall in Prague. In 2016, at the age of 80, he took the stage to conduct the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra to perform Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in D minor with great success.

On February 24, 2019, the symphony concert dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Republic of China held at the Ningbo Grand Theatre was conducted by Yao Guanrong, who was 83 years old at the time. At this concert, he used his masterpiece "The First Symphony" (also known as "Fengyang Flower Drum") to present the 70th anniversary of the motherland, and put the premiere in his hometown to realize his wish for many years.

It is understood that in July this year, Yao Guanrong originally planned to come to his hometown again to take charge of the baton, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the party, to present his new work "Second Symphony", turning his personal experience and insight into music and sincere gratitude.
