Lutz Meschke, Vice Chairman of Porsche's Executive Board, said: "Porsche is moving forward with a transformation and will update four of its six model families by the end of 2024. Since the beginning of the year, Porsche has launched the brand's new Panamera, Taycan and Macan EV, while the facelifted 992-generation 911 will be officially launched in the second half of this year (expected in the third quarter).
According to Oliver Blume, the former CEO of Porsche, the electric 911 model will use technology developed on the track to help it compete with rival hybrid sports cars and supercars. It is reported that the new car will add an electric motor between the front wheels and retain the horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine.
Porsche officials also said that the brand is also working with Rimac to develop the electric unit part of the drivetrain, and the specially designed lithium-ion battery will focus more on weight reduction than range, so the 911 is expected to become a standard gasoline-electric hybrid model rather than a plug-in hybrid model.
