In order to continue to deepen maritime law enforcement cooperation between China and Vietnam Coast Guard and jointly maintain security and stability in the waters of the Beibu Gulf, the 4302 and 4203 ships of the China Coast Guard and the 8004 and 8003 ships of the Vietnam Coast Guard carried out the first joint patrol in the waters of the Beibu Gulf in 2024 from April 27 to 29. This is the 27th joint patrol carried out by the maritime law enforcement agencies of China and Vietnam since 2006. In accordance with the established plan and route, the Chinese and Vietnamese coast guard ships carried out patrols from south to north along the maritime demarcation line of the Gulf of Tonkin between China and Vietnam. During this period, the two countries carried out observation records and boarding inspections, carried out publicity and education for fishing boaters, patrolled for a total of 49 hours and 255.5 nautical miles, observed and recorded 4 mainland fishing boats, 39 Vietnamese fishing boats, and shouted education and reminders for 12 vessels.
The joint patrol in the waters of the Beibu Gulf is a concrete measure to implement the important consensus of the two parties and two countries on deepening maritime law enforcement cooperation between the two countries, and further reflects the strong determination of the Chinese and Vietnamese coast guards to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. The China Coast Guard will continue to take this opportunity to strengthen operational exchanges with the Vietnam Coast Guard, deepen practical cooperation, properly handle maritime emergencies, and play an active role in jointly safeguarding maritime security and stability and building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance.
