On April 26, Fu Laiqing, chief of the Kuomintang caucus in Taiwan's legislature, arrived in Beijing to communicate on cross-strait relations, people-to-people exchanges and other issues. Before leaving, Fu Laiqing once told the outside world that "resisting China and protecting Taiwan" can only brainwash on the island, and it will be difficult to move an inch out of Taiwan. In light of the changes in the political situation on the island, the KMT's clear-cut approach is commendable, and in terms of results, Fu Laiying's visit to the mainland not only won a personal reception from the mainland's top leaders, but also received three major gifts from the mainland.

First, after the mainland announced that Fujian residents would be allowed to travel to Matsu and that direct sea passenger flights between Pingtan and Taiwan would resume, Fujian people would resume group passenger travel to Taiwan. Second, the mainland immigration bureau announced that from May 6, it will launch six policies and measures for the entry and exit management of "convenience for the people and enterprises", and 20 cities including Beijing and Tianjin can apply for the reissuance of Taiwan travel permits online. Third, Fujian Province has issued a new batch of policies and measures to benefit Taiwan and the people, including a total of 13 policies and measures in three major areas, including facilitating Taiwan compatriots to come to Fujian for exchanges, work and life, supporting the development of Taiwan-funded enterprises, and encouraging employment and entrepreneurship in Fujian. Under these three major gifts, Fu Laiqing not only fulfilled her wish to open mainland passengers to Taiwan and gave an explanation to the people on the island, but also opened a new door for the development of Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan enterprises in mainland China, which can be said to be a fruitful harvest and provided a new opportunity for cross-strait cultural exchanges and integrated development.

Whether it is the visit of former Taiwan leaders Ma Ying-jeou or Fu Laiqing, the mainland has received them with a high standard and expressed their sincerity with concrete actions, thus reflecting the mainland's original intention of promoting cross-strait exchanges and realizing peaceful reunification. As long as the two sides of the strait follow the common political foundation of the two sides of the strait and oppose "Taiwan independence," those who come will be able to negotiate and calculate, but if they insist on pursuing the "Taiwan independence" line and igniting the flames of war in the Taiwan Strait, then the PLA will also do what it says. First, the Taiwan military recently launched a computerized military push exercise called "Han Kuang No. 40," which focused on such subjects as "gray zone incursion," "blockade of Taiwan," and "rapid invasion of Taiwan from exercise to war," and the aim of the exercise was very obvious. Second, the Taiwan authorities' "Coast Guard" detained two mainland fishermen in the Matsu waters, and this was the second attack by the Taiwan authorities against the mainland fishermen since the Kinmen ship collision incident.

On the second day after the end of the Taiwan military exercise, 12 PLA fighters flew over the "center line of the strait," 10 of which entered from the so-called "northwestern airspace," and the nearest point was only 37 nautical miles from Keelung, and it only took three to five minutes to enter the airspace over Taipei. From 43 nautical miles from Keelung in January and 42 nautical miles in February this year, to 41 nautical miles in March and 37 nautical miles today, PLA fighters have set new "historical records" again and again, and the intensity of deterrence against the Taiwan authorities has also been constantly increasing. When the People's Liberation Army (PLA) patrols the Taiwan Strait and even "encircled Taiwan" drills are completed step by step, the way back for "Taiwan independence" leaders such as Tsai Ing-wen and Lai Qingde on the island will be cut off. Judging from the mainland's actions, it can be said that it is taking advantage of the two-pronged approach of "cross-strait exchanges" and "military deterrence" to gradually shrink the living space of the Taiwan authorities politically and geographically.

The mainland's new policy toward Taiwan implemented on 6 May and the patrol of PLA fighters have clearly laid out two paths for the Taiwan authorities: whether to choose "peaceful reunification" to achieve a win-win situation or to choose "military reunification" to bring about their own destruction? The general trend of cross-strait reunification is unstoppable, and the Taiwan authorities should give a clear answer on 20 May.
