On the evening of April 28, the Baietan-Dawan Art Center (hereinafter referred to as the "Art Center") was officially opened, and the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Guangdong Literature Museum were officially opened to the public on May 1.
The art center is a major provincial cultural landmark project integrating the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and the Guangdong Literature Museum, and is also an important starting point and carrier for the implementation of the "1310" specific deployment of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, the construction of a higher level of cultural power, and the creation of a world-class tourist destination in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The project was designed by the team of He Jingtang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a famous architect, and the three halls have their own independent tower volumes, and are interconnected through shared areas, with a maximum of 11 floors above ground and 2 floors underground, with a total construction area of about 145,000 square meters. Starting from this "May Day" holiday, the Art Center will bring a number of blockbuster exhibitions with both art and technology to the audience.
The three museums are integrated and interconnected
With this design concept, the art center was built on the land of the Pearl River at the intersection of the three rivers on the bank of Baietan, Liwan District, Guangzhou, and in the core area of Baietan Industrial and Financial Service Innovation Zone, with a 560-meter-long riverside landscape surface, like a white giant ship docked at the riverside. The implication of its design is also obvious: "Lingnan culture rides the wind and waves and spreads far and wide".
The art center integrates the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, and the Guangdong Literature Museum, which are independent in function and form a unified whole in image. In the design, the three museums form their own independent tower volumes in the upper part, and form the overall building base through the overall landscape, Feihong Corridor Bridge, shared art hall, underground commercial space and other shared functional bodies in the lower part, which not only maintains the independence of the three museums in terms of entrance and exit and flow organization, but also realizes the interconnection of the three museums through these shared areas.
In terms of zoning and area, the Guangdong Museum of Art is 65,000 square meters, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is 26,000 square meters, the Guangdong Literature Museum is 18,000 square meters, and the shared public area is 35,000 square meters.
With the completion of the art center, the Guangdong Museum of Art has since formed a new pattern of "one museum and two districts, dislocation development" in the two major museum areas of Baietan, Baietan, and Ersha Island. Located in the eastern part of the art center, the Baietan Pavilion of Guangdong Museum of Art has 21 exhibition halls and a vast public art area, focusing on the ecological research of Chinese contemporary art and the development of international contemporary art, and exploring international art exchanges and cooperation.
The Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is located in the west of the art center, integrating intangible cultural heritage inheritance, experience, tourism, education, training and other functions. The museum is divided into three sections: basic exhibition area, special exhibition hall and inheritance workshop, breaking the boundaries of categories, restoring intangible cultural heritage to the Lingnan cultural space for display, and fully embodying the intangible cultural heritage protection concept of "seeing people, seeing things, and seeing life" through the comprehensive use of static exhibitions, dynamic displays, live performances, and interactive experiences.
From the first floor to the fourth floor, the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum is like a "box full of intangible cultural heritage treasures", and when you open the "box", you can see Chaozhou wood carving, gold lacquer wood carving, Cantonese embroidery, brick carving, Guangcai porcelain, traditional dragon boats...... The collection of Lingnan cultural heritage products is a feast for the audience's eyes.
Guangdong Literature Museum is located in the middle of the art center, is a collection of collection, exhibition, research, education, reading, exchange, creative activities in one of the literary palace, set up literary achievements display area, literary works reading area, popular literature exchange area, literary research area, literary creative integration area, youth creative writing center and other ten main functional blocks and ancillary buildings, is committed to the construction of intelligent, technological, digital literary venues.
Among them, the literary achievement exhibition area mainly includes the exhibition hall of "Bright Moon on the Sea - Ancient Literature of Guangdong", the exhibition hall of "Breaking the Waves to Fly - Modern Literature of Guangdong", the exhibition hall of "The Rebirth of Iron and Fire - Modern Literature of Guangdong", the exhibition hall of "Fragrance Floating in the Four Seasons - Contemporary Literature of Guangdong", the exhibition hall of "Zhongliu Freedom - Literature of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese", the exhibition hall of "Lu Xunjia" and the temporary exhibition hall.
A number of blockbuster exhibitions "May Day" were unveiled
It is understood that in the upcoming "May Day" holiday, the three major museums of the art center will welcome the arrival of the public with blockbuster exhibitions. The opening series of exhibitions of the Baietan-Branch of the Guangdong Museum of Art include "The Awakening Era: The Inheritance and Evolution of Chinese Art in the First Half of the 20th Century", "The Passionate Years: The Transformation and Construction of New Chinese Art", "The Tide Rises in the Pearl River", "The New Era", "The Touch of the Future: Immersive Digital Art Exhibition", "City Chain: The Wind Rises in the South", "The Garden of the Future: Contemporary Public Art Exhibition", and "Frozen Poems: Masterpieces from the Renaissance to the Baroque Collection of the Borghese Museum" Eight exhibitions feature more than 900 works by more than 700 artists at home and abroad.
Among them, the first seven exhibitions are based on the collection of Guangdong Museum of Art in the past 30 years, and borrow classics from the collections of institutions and art institutions such as the National Art Museum of China and the National Museum of China. Qi Baishi, Lin Fengmian, Huang Binhong, Gao Qifeng, Gao Jianfu, Chen Shuren, Pan Tianshou, Fu Baoshi, Li Keran, Guan Shanyue, Li Xiongcai, Huang Zhou and a number of modern Chinese painting masters will appear together. "Frozen Poems: Masterpieces from the Renaissance to the Baroque Collection" will feature 55 paintings and Roman sculptures from the Borghese Museum's collection in Italy, including precious works by Raphael, Titian, Rubens and other art giants.
The Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum will stage a grand "Intangible Cultural Heritage Carnival": the museum will hold an immersive venue roaming and interactive stamp collection and check-in activity of "Discovery, New Vision of Intangible Cultural Heritage", and more than 20 representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage will gather in the outdoor square outside the museum to show the new look and new style of intangible cultural heritage empowering the integration of culture and tourism, rural revitalization and millions of projects. In addition, the 2024 Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Fashion Night will land on the Baietanda Stage on the evening of May 3, and interpret the life aesthetics of Lingnan Heritage through the display of Cantonese embroidery, tide embroidery, raffia yarn, Yao embroidery, and Xiangyun yarn.
The Guangdong Literature Museum has built seven exhibition halls to tell literary stories. For example, the exhibition hall "Bright Moon on the Sea - Ancient Literature of Guangdong" will display the development and evolution of ancient Guangdong literature from the pre-Qin period to the middle of the Qing Dynasty; the exhibition hall "Freedom in the Middle Stream: Literature of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese" will display the achievements of the development of Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese literature, and the "Lu Xun Family" exhibition hall will display the revolutionary process of Lu Xun and Xu Guangping from meeting and acquaintance to becoming partners, literary achievements, and Lu Xun's literary activities in Guangdong.
At that time, Lu Xun's coffee table used in the 1930s in Shanghai's Mainland New Village, Ouyang Shan's "Autobiography" manuscript, Pu Feng's diary in the 1930s, Huangguliu's battlefield diary and battlefield photos, Liang Xin's "Self-Introduction" manuscript, Mao Dunwei's inscription for Yu Feng's "Proletarian", Ba Jin's letter to Yu Feng, and Lu Yao's letter to thank Wangxin before and after the publication of his novel "Ordinary World" will also be unveiled.
It is worth mentioning that the exhibition halls and exhibitions of the art center have a distinctive scientific and technological color. From the "AI Tells the Ancients" of the Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum, the theatrical window installation designed with naked-eye 3D technology, the music light screen created by holographic projection technology, to the digital art light and shadow space of the Guangdong Literature Museum, the immersion gauze light and shadow show, the digital interactive scroll, the landscape virtual roaming space, etc., when the beauty of literature and art meets the dazzle of technology, the audience will enjoy an immersive multi-sensory experience in the art center.
