Recently, the Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission issued the "Implementation Plan on Strengthening Design Services to Promote Home Renovation and Industrial Development for the Elderly (Trial)" (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Plan"). According to the "Implementation Plan", Beijing strives to build a number of high-quality public model rooms for the elderly in hundreds of streets (townships) within two years, and drive tens of thousands of families to carry out high-quality home renovation for the elderly. (Beijing Youth Daily)

Home care is the wish of the vast majority of the elderly, but because the homes where the elderly live are often built earlier, the home environment inevitably has some inconveniences or safety hazards for the elderly. For example, falls are the leading cause of injury death among the elderly aged 65 and above in mainland China, and relevant statistics show that home environment factors account for as much as 85% of the causes of falls.

The renovation of home for the elderly is related to the personal safety and quality of life of the elderly, and its importance is self-evident. It is worth noting that the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) "Accelerating the Transformation of Society for the Elderly" special democratic supervision and research team found last year that due to the general lack of public awareness and understanding of the importance of the transformation for the elderly, this has brought a series of problems such as the reluctance of the people to buy it and the difficulty of policy support, which has restricted the progress of the renovation of the home for the elderly to a certain extent. We need to make great efforts to deal with this.

Beijing has formulated and issued the "Implementation Plan", proposing to design and transform around the core needs of home safety, living activities, life care, rehabilitation care, etc., and to deploy how to promote the transformation of home for the elderly and industrial development, which is of great practical significance. A prominent highlight of the "Implementation Plan" is that the construction of "model rooms" is used as the starting point to facilitate residents to experience the "immersive" transformation for the elderly at their doorsteps. Obviously, compared with watching promotional videos and reading paper construction plans, it will be more intuitive and impressive to experience the specific situation of each renovation in person. It is conceivable that when the elderly and their families open their horizons by visiting the "model room" and stimulate the desire to carry out high-quality renovation for the elderly, their "heartbeat" and "eagerness to try" will be transformed into abundant consumption momentum and open up a new situation of home renovation for the elderly.

As far as the construction of "model rooms" is concerned, quantity is more important than quality, and speed is more important than the satisfaction of the elderly. According to the "Implementation Plan", 70% of the total investment in fixed assets can be given to the "model room" project of high-standard age-appropriate renovation of streets (townships) that meet the requirements. Such a provision is of great guiding significance, which helps to make the grassroots more attentive and affectionate to devote themselves to the renovation of the home for the elderly. The "Implementation Plan" also encourages design enterprises to settle in the "model room" to provide preferential design services for elderly families, and proposes that the "model room" simultaneously provides embedded public services such as housekeeping and convenience, which effectively embodies the work ideas of people-oriented, truth-seeking and pragmatic, horizontal integration and in-depth promotion. Coordinating the efforts of all parties and working together to sing the "chorus" of home renovation for the elderly can not only create a forward-looking and constructive "model room" favored by the elderly, but also stimulate the spillover effect of "1+1>2", and its implementation effect is worth looking forward to.

The sunset is infinitely good, and the world is sunny at night. It is believed that all relevant departments and market entities in Beijing aim at the expectations of the elderly for a better life, work hard to build a good "model room", demonstrate and lead the home renovation work for the elderly, and change the transformation to the hearts of the elderly, which will surely form a vivid practice of "100 streets and 10,000 households", and usher in a gratifying scene of the increasing popularity of home renovation for the elderly. This will provide a reference model for the whole country to carry out home renovation for the elderly, effectively hold up the happiness of the "sunset red", and make the majority of the elderly have a better quality of life in their later years.
