I, who lost my job at the age of 24 due to uremia, now conquer the hearts of millions of netizens with handicrafts

This is the 3,732nd real story we have told

My name is Huang Caihui, and I am a post-80s generation from an ordinary rural family in Guangdong.

After dropping out of junior high school at the age of 15, I went to Guangzhou and Shenzhen to work as a jewelry factory worker. Because of his persistent love for making small toys, although he has a hard time, he is also happy.

In 2013, at the age of 24, I was diagnosed with uremia and had to rely on dialysis to survive.

Looking at the increasingly weak body and high medical expenses, I was unwilling to compromise with fate and returned to my old business to do handicrafts, which not only subsidized part of the medical expenses, but also captured the hearts of millions of netizens.

(My hometown)

In 1988, I was born in a small mountain village in Baoan Town, Lianzhou, Guangdong. The small mountain village is located in a remote area, far from the city center, and most of the young people go out to work, and now it is sparsely populated. My parents were ordinary farmers, and I had three children, my sister, my brother and me.

As a child, I was naughty. When he was hungry, he ate other people's melons, and he almost lost his life by swimming in the river.

However, I like to tinker with my own hands, fix broken radios that others have lost, and I am also very imaginative, often figuring out how to make small toys by myself.

I have an irresistible interest in gadgets, and when I was a child, my family was poor, and I relied on them for my own entertainment. But I never imagined that these little toys would change my life years later.

But I've never been interested in reading. In 2003, at the age of 15, I dropped out of junior high school to help with farm work at home. Two years later, I went out with my mother to earn a living.

When I was a teenager, I walked out of the mountains for the first time, saw the crowded Guangzhou Railway Station, and saw the neon lights of Shenzhen at night, and I was very excited, only to realize that the outside world is so prosperous.

When I came to a new environment, I was curious about everything, and at the same time, I felt more and more that the small village I used to live in was too backward.

(In a jewelry factory, second from right)

Soon, I got my first job as a worker in a jewelry factory, 300 yuan a month, only for food and clothing. The job was so hard that within a few days I didn't want to do it and called my family. They agreed to let me go back, but I had to herd cattle and farm.

After a long time of hesitation, I finally decided to stay in Shenzhen.

As a last resort, I continued to work in the jewelry processing factory, starting as an apprentice. Although my grades in reading were not very good, I had an extraordinary talent in hands-on ability, and gradually I became interested in jewelry processing.

At that time, I could make a ring with a floor plan. With the increase of working years, the ability to build three-dimensional thinking by myself is also improving day by day, the patterns on the manuscript paper are familiar by heart, and the manual skills are becoming more and more mellow.

With my excellent hands-on skills, I learned well and quickly, and soon gained the appreciation of my master and boss, and my salary slowly increased.

Life gradually improved, I made new friends, and my personality became cheerful and outgoing, no longer like the introverted little boy who lived in a small mountain village before.

A few years later, I went from apprentice to master and started taking apprentices. During this period, he also went to several other factories, and finally planned to partner with a friend to open a studio in Zhaoqing Sihui and start his own business.

Unfortunately, the good times didn't last long, and one autumn in 2013, a desperate news completely broke me.

Like countless ordinary days, I climbed up to the fourth floor of the factory as usual, but I felt very strained, and my legs were stiff and swollen as if they were frozen.

(Dialysis machines in hospitals)

Not only that, but I started vomiting and had no appetite for anything. At first, I thought it was a stomach problem, so I went to a small clinic to prescribe medicine, but the results did not improve.

As a last resort, I came to a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou. When I saw the test results, I was shocked: advanced uremia. "There is no cure", when I heard these three words in the doctor's mouth, I only felt that the world was spinning, my legs were weak, my eyes were dark, and I couldn't even stand steadily.

When my mother heard the news, she was so anxious that she hurried to Guangzhou to accompany me to see a doctor.

Soon, I started peritoneal dialysis treatment. A long tube is inserted into the abdomen, and after the water in the abdomen is drained, four pounds of dialysate are introduced into the abdominal cavity. This type of dialysis is done 4 times a day, and the potion needs to be changed every 4 hours.

The savings for treatment in other places were exhausted, the cost of dialysis was increasing day by day, and the 4 catties of potions in my abdomen made me lose my ability to work and had to resign.

The following year, I returned to my hometown in Lianzhou, Qingyuan, and in 2016, I applied to become a registered poor household in the village.

After returning to my hometown, I couldn't help with the farming, and I had to spend my family's money on treatment, so I felt guilty and stressed all the time. I couldn't be idle, I wanted to help my family, so I started farming.

I started growing melons. Once the seeds were planted, I was ready to do my job. After surviving the scorching summer and the bitter winter, I earned 2,000 yuan after a year of hard work.

When you go to the market to sell, you can sell it for a pound for a good one, and you can only make five cents for an ugly one, and you can't make any money at all. But I was not discouraged and continued to look for ways to make money.

I took my father to reclaim the wasteland and planted hundreds of tangerines and plums. Due to the lack of planting technology, the fruit trees have yellow leaf disease, and the plums are also partly fruitful and partly fruitless.

(I was treated in the hospital)

During the planting period, I couldn't bear much physical labor, and I had to rely on my father for weeding, fertilizing, and watering.

Looking at my father's increasingly clumsy back in the field, I couldn't help much, and I was very uncomfortable and more and more depressed.

If you can't raise plants, why don't you try to raise animals? Unfortunately, I didn't know the habits of bamboo rats, and the matter ended up being closed.

At the end of 2017, my condition worsened, and long-term peritoneal dialysis led to peritoneal fibrosis, which caused a lung infection, and I was finally admitted to the ICU.

Since then, peritoneal dialysis has not been able to remove toxins, and I started going to the hospital every week for hemodialysis.

What is pleasing to people is that after switching to hemodialysis treatment, it is very effective, I feel as if I am alive again, refreshed, and my condition is slowly improving.

I seem to see hope in life, and my mental state is getting better and better. "When God closes this door, he will surely open another door for you", as the saying goes, I also ushered in a new turn.

Then came 2020, because of the epidemic at home, I was bored. In order to make my three-year-old niece happy, I made her a bamboo man, and my niece was very happy and couldn't take her eyes off it.

(Me and my lovely nephew and niece)

I recorded this warm scene with my mobile phone, with humorous and funny background music, and posted it on a short video, unexpectedly, this video became popular, and the number of views was million!

"Versatile is awesome!", "Can I order it?", "Luban's heir", looking at these messages, I was extremely moved by the long-lost encouragement.

With everyone's encouragement, my creative enthusiasm is high and I am more motivated!

In the countryside, wood and bamboo are very common, and they are the raw materials that I make, plus batteries, motors and switches, and it is not difficult for me to make something new.

From that moment on, I decided to get back to my old business, and I got ready to go big with calipers, nose pliers, saw blades, sanders, and dusty jewelry processing tools.

A 10-square-meter hut at home is my studio, and when I don't go to dialysis, I stay in the room and do handicrafts. The intricate handiwork is time-consuming, and I often spend the whole day in it polishing the work.

From the beginning of the "practice" to the later more and more proficient, I began to unify the size and standard of the bamboo people, the workmanship became more and more refined, I found the familiar feeling, and finally got on the right track.

(I make handicrafts in the studio)

Growing up in the countryside, my creative inspiration came from farming.

Raccoon clothing, weaving, waterwheel, pounding rice, pushing and grinding, sawing wood...... Familiar and intimate farmhouse scenes came to mind, and under my hands, they became vivid and lifelike.

Nowadays, young people rarely see these scenes, and I am willing to show them these interesting and lively life scenes, hoping that in the busy and noisy city, there is a paradise where they can rest at ease.

After posting dozens of works, my followers grew quickly, and more people ordered works from me. "Every day when I don't dance is a disappointment to life", so far I have made more than 20 styles, different shapes and sizes, small ones like lunch boxes, and large ones are fifty or sixty centimeters long.

The price of these handicrafts is about 100 to 200 yuan, and the price of complex ones is slightly higher, but in addition, I also sell some semi-finished products, because customers want to do their own handiwork.

I also like to try some difficult crafts, and although I sometimes fail, I don't give up and make them with sticks and bamboo sticks.

(Fun farm life)

Sometimes some customers are not satisfied with my style and ask for it to be made according to their ideas. Sometimes I also post some tutorial videos to satisfy the curiosity of the majority of netizens.

The handmade process is cumbersome and the cycle is long, so I can only sell it in a predetermined mode. Due to my physical reasons, I can't sit for long periods of time, and I often need to move around a lot so that my legs don't become numb and stiff.

I sincerely thank the fans for their support, with the purchase of fans and the creation rewards of the platform, I don't have to rely on my family completely, and I finally bear part of the dialysis fees and medicine costs on my own.

This year is my 10th year on dialysis, and my skin is dark and my face is dull and colorless due to long-term renal insufficiency, which has led to the accumulation of toxins and metabolic waste products in my body.

Today, I still have to go to the hospital 2 to 3 times a week for hemodialysis for four hours at a time. Lying on the hospital bed, unable to move, he could only watch the long tubes wrapped around his body, filtering the blood over and over again. After I came back from the hospital, I still had to help my family with some farm work such as harvesting rice.

(My Fun Craft: Roasted Corn)

Actually, apart from the essential weekly dialysis, I don't feel like I'm any different from anyone else.

When I don't have anything to do, I also do handicrafts and send out works. Full of hope instead of the previous sullenness, watching the complex manual completion, full of sense of achievement.

The Internet is a public opinion field, some people support me, and some people think that I am selling miserably, suspecting that I have made a lot of money by relying on video revenue and manual customization.

Reading these comments, I feel chilled, but I don't have time to think about it anymore. A person in the same village who often goes to get medicine with me is no longer in this world.

Instead of worrying about these selfish and unsympathetic people on the Internet, I prefer to spend my time and energy on myself, do more handwork, and spread hope to more people.

(Magical Underwater World)

After 10 years on dialysis, I have experienced countless hardships and cherished everything I have more. Live in the moment, do it and cherish it.

Life is impermanent, there are unpredictable circumstances in the sky, and people have good fortunes and misfortunes. Anxiety and internal friction are meaningless, let it be, and hard work and persistence are my choices.

"Don't get discouraged, don't give up" is my motto, in the face of illness, I never treat myself as a patient, persist and work hard. Life hasn't abandoned me, so I still choose to live in the sun.

My name is Caihui, Caihui, the brilliance of the rainbow. After the violent storm, I hope you can also see the beautiful scenery of the clouds and rain, and I think at that moment, all the perseverance has meaning.
