On April 24, BMW's new-generation concept car and next-generation X concept car made their debut in China. The two new models adopt a new design language, and instead of the oversized kidney grille found in the current BMW 4 Series, two different styles have evolved.
The new-generation concept car is based on a newly developed E/E architecture with an 800V high-voltage electrical system, a next-generation iDrive human-machine interaction system and a panoramic vision bridge, a drive and chassis control system developed specifically for the next-generation model, and the sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology.
The BMW Next-Generation Concept will go into mass production in the second half of 2025, and BMW Brilliance will start production of the first next-generation model from 2026, which is expected to be the production version of the next-generation X Concept.
A next-generation concept car
The new-generation concept car highly recreates the design of the BMW i Vision Dee digital emotional interaction concept, with a polygonal kidney grille combined with ribbon headlight clusters on both sides, and a breathable dot matrix light strip is added to the interior, the side of the car pays homage to tradition, retains the "Hofmeister corner" of the C-pillar, the lower edge of the window is transparent, and the rear hatchback and half design is short and compact, and the light cluster echoes the front of the car.
The interior of the new-generation concept car adopts a minimalist design style, equipped with an upper and lower flat-bottomed rectangular steering wheel, a large floating center control screen, the center console island extends downwards to form an arch bridge shape, and the door handles have functional operation buttons. The new car will be equipped with the next-generation BMW iDrive operating system and will debut Surround View Bridge technology.
The next-generation X Concept
The new-generation X Concept features a polygonal light screen with daytime running lights on both sides, a central vertical kidney grille that pays homage to the original model and a light-up light strip around it, electronic exterior mirrors on the side of the car, door handles on the lower edge of the window, the iconic Hofmeister corners are retained in a "reflective print", a large spoiler above the rear end, and 3D printed light clusters that widen the visual width to echo the front end.
The interior of the new-generation X Concept is made from recycled materials, with 30% ocean plastic used for the first time. The new car is equipped with an upper and lower flat-bottomed rectangular steering wheel, a special-shaped floating central control screen, and a panoramic vision bridge + 3D head-up display system.
BMW's new-generation concept car family will be equipped with the sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology, which will increase the energy density of the battery cells by more than 20%, increase the vehicle efficiency by 25%, and increase the voltage platform of the charging technology to 800V, which can achieve a range of 300 kilometers in 10 minutes. The new electronic and electrical architecture has "4 super brains", and the software and hardware responsible for powertrain and driving dynamic management are completely self-developed, and the computing power is increased by 10 times.
