Recently, the maximum temperature in many parts of India has exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department predicts that India will have significantly more hot days from April to June this year than in previous years. People attending election rallies in hot weather need to buy ice cream and cold drinks to quench their thirst.
Sugar producers expect India's sugar consumption to rise to 7.5 million tonnes in April-June this year, up 5 percent from a year earlier, and total consumption to reach a record 29 million tonnes this year. In the marketing year ending September 30, 2023, sugar consumption in India stood at 27.85 million mt.
As summer begins in March, sales of cold drinks such as ice cream in India increase, and the demand for sugar increases. However, this year's high temperatures and the increase in election rallies have further stimulated the consumption of cold drinks.
