Recently, Yu Minhong, Chairman of New Oriental Education & Technology Group, delivered a speech at the 10th Anniversary of the China Entrepreneurs Summit (Beijing) and Peking University Entrepreneurship Training Camp.

As long as you are on the road, you are always on the road, and you must also be honored to die on the road, the "Shroud of Horse Leather". I think the spirit of entrepreneurship should be the same as the spirit of generals on the battlefield in ancient times, "generals die in a hundred battles, and strong men return in ten years".

In fact, for entrepreneurs, there is no "strong man ten years back", once on the road, you will be a strong man for life, it is possible to become a martyr from a strong man, and you will not die if you become a martyr. Why? In the twilight of the martyrs, you have to continue to work hard. Mr. Zhang Weiying likes to talk about entrepreneurship very much, and I think the so-called entrepreneurship is what I just described. Once you're on the road, you're going through thick and thin, until one day you disappear outside the horizon, and the young people behind you or your children continue to follow you and go farther to the horizon, that's entrepreneurship.

It is often said that "Mr. Yu has persevered until today for thirty or forty years, and so many people in Chinese entrepreneurs have now been lying flat, and I can see that Yu Minhong is still active on the stage of Chinese enterprises." Although the business is not so big, the thunder and raindrops are quite big, and there is news of Yu Minhong everywhere, why is he still so jumping and tossing so much?" It's just that entrepreneurs have the ability to often turn reactive into proactive, and I do the same. In this process, there are a few points I would like to share with you a little.

I think everyone has a sense of interest, and if a person does not have a sense of interest and fame, he will not be self-motivated.

Fame and fortune, the pursuit of fame, the pursuit of status, these things are the driving force of people, which is the basis of the source of people's sense of achievement, or the basis of progress and progress. At this point, I am sure that you will agree with my statement that what we need to do must not be at the expense of others and self-interest. There are several realms of doing things. The highest state is to harm oneself and benefit others, and philanthropists, saints, etc., have this realm. We don't have to make such high demands on ourselves, sacrifice ourselves for altruism, and of course if you can do it better. The second realm is self-interest and self-interest, that is, what is done is beneficial to oneself and others. The third realm is self-interest without harming others, and self-interest without harming others. Below is the negative realm, self-interest and harm others. There are also people who are particularly stupid, who hurt themselves and others. The latter two are not worth mentioning. I think that if you are going to do business or business, you should do at least the first three things I said. Of course, the first kind of saint realm will not be mentioned. At least the second and third are considered the most basic conditions for doing business. If you do this, no matter how much you pursue profit, wealth, and status, you will not make a big mistake. Once you do something that harms others and benefits yourself, there is a reciprocal revenge system in this world, and the retribution we are talking about is not superstition, it is a social reality, because others have suffered losses, and sooner or later they will come back to you to settle accounts, which is certain. Therefore, those who love love to return, and those who are blessed are blessed. If you give love, love will come back to you, if you give others blessings, they will return the blessings to you, and if you harm others, others will harm you in turn. This is a particularly simple Chinese folk wisdom, but many people can't do it when faced with the utilitarian interests of fame.

Everyone should remember that this is a symbiotic and win-win society, which is called "win-win situation" in English. But a lot of people really understand "win-win situation" as "I win twice". We often find that the manager or founder of a company has problems internally and externally when making decisions. For example, when dealing with internal managers or collaborators, he will make decisions that are only beneficial to himself and not good for his collaborators or managers, when dealing with employees, he will also make decisions that are beneficial to himself and not good for employees, he will do the same when dealing with his own consumers and customers, he will do the same when dealing with supplier collaborators, and he will do the same when dealing with society. What he thinks is "I want to win, I want to eat more and occupy more", then the final result must not be good. I've seen a lot of entrepreneurs who start fighting internally when their business is doing well, and they don't buy each other, and in the end, the so-called "win-win situation" becomes a lose-lose situation, and I see a lot of this situation. Therefore, in the 30 years of New Oriental, I have experienced countless internal contradictions, struggles, disputes, and various changes, so that I finally made a movie called "Chinese Partner". Now Dong Yuhui's advice to me is, "Mr. Yu, can we make a "Chinese Partner 2"?" I said, "You still think outsiders don't know enough about us, do you?"

The reason why New Oriental is still there today, and Oriental Selection is still developing healthily, is because contradictions and disputes have been successfully resolved again and again. So for an entrepreneur and an entrepreneur, you not only have to endure humiliation and swallow tears in your stomach, but also swallow them very happily. In the end, no matter how much suffering you go through, as long as the cause you lead succeeds, it is a great success. Your enterprise must use your own perseverance, endure humiliation, give up interests, and fulfill others to be able to do it, which is called true symbiosis and win-win. Let others win first, you win in the end, give honor to others first, and then you get the final honor. Therefore, I believe that, first, we should be as good as possible to benefit ourselves and others, second, to achieve symbiosis and win-win as much as possible, and third, to be as "invincible as possible". What does it mean to be invincible in the world? It is not that you have no opponents, nor is it that no one is against you, but in your heart, all your friends and opponents are ultimately people who exist to achieve your career. Therefore, be grateful for everything that happens around you, the partner who quarrels with you will make you more sensitive in dealing with internal conflicts and make you more magnanimous, and the external enemy who attacks you can make your Achilles heel more tenacious. The contradictions of all enterprises are internal contradictions, all the contradictions between you and your customers are also internal contradictions, and all the contradictions between you and your competitors are essentially internal contradictions. Internal contradictions should be resolved in a united and friendly manner. I don't think this kind of company can last long.

Stick to the right path, that is, don't do things that break the law and discipline. Now the Internet has a memory, history also has a memory, and what you do may still be chasing you 10, 20 or even 30 years later. I'm often worried about it on the Internet now, because I did bad things when I was younger, and I'm certainly not talking about bad things that break the law and discipline. Now all my videos from 30 years ago to this day can be searched on the Internet. Last time, Liu Qiao invited me to give a speech at Peking University, which lasted for an hour and a half. The Internet has a memory, and if you do something inauthentic, everyone can remember it. Therefore, in New Oriental, we should "hold righteous thoughts, take the right path, do the right thing, and get the right results".

If you do what I just said, plus the last one, I think you can do it. That is, starting a business is not to make money, of course, to make money, starting a business is not to achieve fame for yourself, of course, you have to become famous, and starting a business is to do what you really like in your heart.

There are often entrepreneurs who are big models today, self-media tomorrow, VR, AR and other things the day after tomorrow, I think that's following the trend. If you really like it, do it. If it is for entrepreneurship, it must have social significance, which means that the following two prerequisites must be completed:

First, we will do what meets the needs of the times as much as possible and can contribute to the progress of the times. In line with the general trend of the whole era, we cannot move against the tide.

Second, do things that are in line with the interests of the people, of course, things that are in line with the interests of all employees in your company, and things that are in your own interests. In this way, because you have created benefits for the people, the interests of your company are self-evident, so that you can truly dance with our motherland and society and advance with the times.
