Lau Pa Sat is Singapore's most iconic food court and a must-see for every visitor. This old building in the heart of the city has been standing here for 130 years (it was moved to its current location in 1894).

To celebrate its 130th anniversary, Lau Pa Sat has launched an anniversary celebration featuring a huge mural and a range of merchandise created in collaboration with renowned Singaporean visual artist Yip Yip Yiu Chung and illustrator Ah Go.

The 10-metre-long mural is beautifully illustrated with watercolour illustrations that illustrate the evolution of Lau Pa Sat as a treasured landmark in Singapore over the years.

The mural takes the viewer on a journey to Lau Pa Sat's first Telok Ayer Market opened by the sea in 1824 and evolved into a bustling lunch destination in the 90s.

It also shows the busy seaside scene in the early days of Lau Pa Sa, where fishermen fish in the nearby waters and then sell their catch for the day in Lau Pa Saat. There are also early street vendors, such as the familiar satay vendors, as well as other traditional dishes.

Lau Pa Sat has unveiled a 130th anniversary merchandise that blends hawker culture and iconic buildings, including Victorian iron pillars, ornate foliage and an octagonal layout. Anniversary symbols can be seen everywhere around Lau Pa Sat and on staff uniforms and anniversary merchandise.

In addition to food, Lau Pa Sat is also a platform to elevate Singapore's corporate and arts community, with Food Folks showcasing up to 100 well-known brands to provide customers with a unique experience. Visitors can also take home limited-edition pieces with a postcard set and an EZ-link card set, courtesy of Food Folks exclusively.

The commemoration coincided with World Arts Day to recognise the important role played by local artists in preserving Singapore's cultural heritage. Managed by Kopitiam, a social enterprise owned by FairPrice Group, Lau Pa Sat attracts locals and tourists alike with a wide variety of local cuisines and unique experiences.

"I believe in the power of art to tell stories and memories. We collaborated with Yip Yiu Chung and Ah Guo to express the history and vibrancy of Lau Pa Sat over the years through their work. Hopefully, it will inspire the community to come together and start a conversation around cultural heritage, food, and shared experiences. Pauline Png, Director of Food Services, shared.
