Through the implementation of a series of governance measures, the ecological environment of the Yellow River Basin has continued to improve significantly. In 2023, the proportion of excellent water quality in the Yellow River Basin will increase by 3.5% compared with the previous year. The initial area of soil erosion control in the basin is 117,800 square kilometers, and the vegetation coverage rate of the Kubuqi Desert is 53%. The area of the estuarine reed swamp wetland in the Yellow River Delta has been rebounding year by year, the water quality has stabilized at Class II., and the number of bird species has increased from 187 to 373.
The revived mother river is bringing more ecological benefits to the people along the route. At the water sports center on the Fen River, the second largest tributary of the Yellow River, athletes from Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, are training for rowing and canoeing. But a few years ago, due to the low water volume and substandard water quality of the Fen River, the team members still needed to find venues everywhere for their daily training.

While the river's flood carrying capacity has been continuously improved, the downstream embankments have also fully met the standards, effectively preventing the largest autumn flood since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 2021. At the same time, the flood prevention safety problem of nearly 900,000 people in the beach area has also been basically solved.
This year, preparations are underway for major water conservancy projects such as Guxian and Heishan Gorge, and the construction of the Yellow River Basin Ecological Protection and High-quality Development Pilot Zone will also be accelerated, so as to comprehensively improve the water security guarantee capacity of the Yellow River Basin.
