The 2003 thriller film "Old Boy" directed by Park Chan-wook, adapted from the Japanese manga "Iron Man and Strong Dragon", is the second part of the director's "revenge trilogy", and won the Grand Jury Prize at the 57th Cannes International Film Festival and other awards.
Although Park Chan-wook's film version of "Old Boy" is not the original book, it has been widely praised by Hollywood, and in 2013 the American version of "Old Boy" starring Josh Brolin and Elizabeth Olsen was released.
Recently, Lionsgate Television announced that it will launch a Korean version of the "Oldboy" film adaptation of the TV series, which will be directed by Park Chan-wook himself. Lionsgate's executive vice president and head of script development noted that "the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes, and visceral style made the film a classic," but did not reveal much more about the series' production.
It is understood that the TV series will tell a similar story to the film, where a man is imprisoned for 15 years for no reason, during which he sees on television the news that his wife was killed and his daughter's whereabouts are unknown. So he changed his mindset and prepared himself during his captivity, until he saw the light of day 15 years later.
