On April 4, she flew to Spain and then arrived in the small town of Xàbia. Before leaving the country, she told her family that she was looking for a friend in Spain, but the family did not know the identity of her friend.
Ms. Fang left the hotel at 8:45 p.m. on April 9 and never returned.
She was supposed to check out on April 10, but when hotel staff cleaned her room, they found that her personal belongings were left in the room.
Fong Di-joe's relatives and friends said they had been unable to contact the deceased since April 10 and reported the incident to Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs the following day (April 11).
Fong was supposed to return to Singapore on April 12, but her brother met her at the airport and didn't see her. The airline later confirmed that Fong did not board the plane and that her family reported the incident to the Singapore police on the same day.

On April 10, her body was found in a parking lot in Luoli and local police were subsequently notified. This car park is located in the city of Murcia, 150 km from the hotel in Fontijo. On April 16, Spanish police arrested a male Singaporean suspect and confirmed the next day (April 17) that the deceased was the missing Fang Dirou.
Ms. Fang, who is unmarried and lived with her father and brother, had planned to travel to Japan with her family in late April and work at her new company in May, but that was no longer possible.
The Honorary Consul General of Singapore in Madrid has been in contact with local law enforcement agencies, and Fong Dirou's family has now arrived in Spain to assist the police in the investigation.
