Development overview

The JRVG-1 76mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun is a new vehicle-mounted medium-caliber anti-aircraft defense combat unit jointly developed by NORINCO and the two major military industrial national teams of China Shipbuilding Industry Group. The main purpose of the development of this system is to make up for the lack of air defense of medium-caliber antiaircraft artillery on land, and the antiaircraft artillery previously equipped by the mainland is mainly small and medium-sized calibers such as 23 mm, 30 mm, 35 mm, and 57 mm.

At the 2016 Zhuhai Air Show, NORINCO launched a 76mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun called SA2, which was transplanted from the H/PJ-26 naval gun, with a muzzle velocity of 980 m/s and a rate of fire of 110 rounds per minute. However, its rate of fire is not particularly high, and its performance is not outstanding, so it can only be regarded as a foreign trade product with good quality and low price and decent performance. In order to further solve the problem of the demand for medium-caliber self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, the 716th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. decided to select a modified target in the field of naval guns it is familiar with, adopt newer technology and design, and endow it with a higher rate of fire and performance, making it a self-propelled artillery system with "outstanding" performance and technical characteristics. The successfully developed model is the JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.

The JRVG-1 76mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun is positioned as one of the combat units of the air defense system of the battalion/company level wheeled light mechanized troops, and together with other air defense combat units, it forms a coordinated air defense combat system, which is mainly used to intercept incoming cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles, helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and other air targets, and can also be used to expand its use to strike and suppress ground targets such as enemy light tanks, armored vehicles, positions, and buildings.

Technical features:

What are the technical characteristics of the JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, which was converted from a shipborne to a land-based one?

First of all, when the shipboard is modified with land-based self-propelled guns, the JRVG-1 inherits a series of highly integrated search and tracking integrated radars (including television, infrared and laser rangefinders) and advanced fire control systems on the ship, and transplants all of these to the land-based artillery, which makes it have a powerful single vehicle independent combat capability.

Secondly, the general medium-caliber naval guns, due to the shipborne transplantation to land-based, water-cooled to air-cooled, generally have to reduce the rate of fire to adapt to the lower cooling efficiency, but the JRVG-1 76 mm gun from the naval gun to the land-based artillery, not only did not reduce the rate of fire, but the rate of fire increased from 120 rounds / min to 300 rounds / min. This is mainly due to the fact that the JRVG-1 76mm gun adopts a new firing structure system, which effectively increases the rate of fire.

Third, the high-power and high-rate 76 mm gun will inevitably encounter the technical problem of balancing recoil when firing, and the 76 mm balancing machine adopts a symmetrical design of left and right parallel symmetry, located under the barrel; this type of gun also adopts a new type of muzzle brake in the pepper shaker type, which has a high control and retreat efficiency, which effectively balances the recoil generated when firing. In addition, in order to reduce the vibration of the 76-mm rifled gun when firing, in the middle and rear of the barrel, a truss stabilization mechanism was provided for stabilizing its barrel vibration.

Fourth, due to the reasonable and compact design, coupled with a full set of tracking radar and fire control system, the weight of the entire 76-mm turret is only 8 tons, and the total weight of the whole vehicle is also controlled at 32 tons, which is quite high for a high-performance self-propelled anti-aircraft gun with a 76 mm caliber, which is not easy.

Fifth, the JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun is equipped with advanced on-board electronic systems, including one set of positioning and orientation navigation system, one set of satellite navigation and positioning system, and one set of advanced inter-vehicle/in-vehicle communication equipment. In addition, 2 sets of grenade smoke screen launchers were installed for self-defense.

Sixth, the turret of the JRVG-1 76mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun seems to be huge, but in fact it is not a two-man turret, but an unmanned turret, that is, a full set of automatic ammunition supply equipment is installed in it, and the detection and strike capability of the JRVG-1 76mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun is integrated with launch and detection, and has a strong detection and search capability. The vehicle has a search and detection range of more than 20 kilometers for aircraft targets and more than 15 kilometers for missile targets.

The JRVG-1 self-propelled artillery has a radar tracking distance of more than 15 kilometers for aircraft targets and more than 12 kilometers for missile targets, and its infrared thermal imager has a maximum tracking distance of more than 12 kilometers for aircraft targets and more than 6 kilometers for missile targets.

The JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun has an effective strike range of 6 km against aircraft targets, 4 km against missile targets, and 15 km against ground targets.

The JRVG-1 76mm self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery system has a very short response time to the air, of which the system reaction time is not more than 10 seconds during autonomous combat, and the system reaction time is shorter than 5 seconds due to the coordination of other platforms during centralized command.

The JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun can currently fire three types of ammunition, including semi-armor-piercing, high-explosive and AHEAD programmable ammunition, especially when the third ammunition is used, and its air target interception accuracy can be greatly improved. In addition, the JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled gun can also be optionally installed with a laser rangefinder, which is mounted above the root side of the gun, which can give it the ability to fire laser-guided projectiles, which are also guided projectiles, and the shooting accuracy is also high, and at the same time it has an advantage over AHEAD ammunition in price.

The application prospect is broad

At present, there are not many applications in the world for ship-based transplanted land-based 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft guns. Only the Italian Army transplanted the famous Otto Melera 76/62 rapid naval gun onto the chassis of the vehicle and developed the famous "Dracon" tracked self-propelled anti-aircraft gun.

After the successful development of the JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, foreign trade prospects are broad. It uses a wheeled chassis and a rifled gun for shooting, both in terms of overall price and air defense performance, it is significantly superior to the Italian "Dracon", for countries that need a field accompanying air defense system, it can directly accompany the army units and perform air defense tasks with other anti-aircraft artillery and missiles, its effective range is 6 kilometers, which is farther than small-caliber anti-aircraft guns, and can even replace some short-range anti-aircraft missile weapons. And if it is used for its own use, the JRVG-1 76 mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun also has application prospects, it uses a wheeled combat vehicle chassis, which can act together with wheeled light mechanized troops to provide field air defense services, and its supersonic (muzzle velocity of about 900 m / s) ammunition can completely intercept targets such as supersonic aircraft or missiles at Mach 2.5, while some close defense missiles have a slow initial velocity, and the interception effect may not be better than it. The JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled gun can also be used to attack fortified positions and suppress enemy armored targets remotely, and its 15-kilometer range and 76-mm caliber are undoubtedly a major threat to enemy tank armored vehicles.

All in all, the JRVG-1 76-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun has excellent technical performance and broad prospects for future applications.
