It can be said that in every war there will be martyrs who have sacrificed, and there will also be heroic battle heroes. Many heroes have also emerged in this war. One of the soldiers actually blew up and killed the captain of the Vietnamese army, and the organization immediately commended him.
For such a soldier who has made great contributions to the country, the state is also very thoughtful about his future arrangements. Organizationally, he was asked to choose his own position, and his final choice was also very puzzling.
1. Go to the battlefield
In 1958, a baby boy was born in a family in Kaifeng, Henan Province, but his parents were happy and worried. It can be said that those years were the most difficult time in China, and Henan was one of the most serious cities.
For the ordinary people at that time, the arrival of the child was a sign that their future life would be even more difficult. Yang Changqun's family has many brothers and sisters, and with a young Yang Changqun, it can be said that the family's life is even more difficult. But even so, the parents of the Yang family did not give up on their children, but worked hard to pull the children to grow up.
As a boy in the family, Yang Changqun clearly knew the responsibility on his shoulders, so when he was very young, he had already begun to go out to work to earn money to supplement the family, and the poor Yang family even had a problem to eat, let alone let Yang Changqun go to study. It is precisely because he crawled in society at a young age that Yang Changqun's resolute character was created.
When he was twenty years old, Yang Changqun's life ushered in a turning point. He responded to the call of the country and embarked on the road of joining the army, and then Yang Changqun became a member of the People's Liberation Army. Yang Changqun, who first joined the army, was a member of the 54th Division of the 160th Army. It is worth mentioning that at the beginning, Yang Changqun's unit was not a fully trained army, and some of their soldiers were engaged in production work.
However, for Yang Changqun, who had experienced social hardships, this was enough, but what everyone did not expect was that the counterattack against Vietnam began only the following year.
Yang Changqun, who was in the army, soon learned the news that his army was going to the battlefield, and it was impossible not to be excited. In the subsequent training, Yang Changqun worked very hard, and was soon assigned to the rocket squad of the Ninth Company as a deputy shooter. Although he is said to be a deputy, Yang Changqun has only been in the army for a year, and his promotion is also very fast.
It is worth mentioning here that more than 20 years have passed since the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and the veterans on the battlefield of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea are all old, so it is inevitable to add a lot of fresh blood to the counterattack against Vietnam.
After entering Vietnam, Yang Changqun was still very excited, this was the first time he faced a real war. But the young Yang Changqun had no fear at all. The time came to the middle of March of the same year. At this time, under the command of two generals, Xu Shiyou and Yang Dezhi, great results were achieved on both the eastern and western fronts, and it can be said that the purpose of China's dispatch of troops has been achieved.
When the troops were first dispatched, the superiors gave instructions that this battle was not a battle to destroy the country, and the meaning of shock was more serious. Now that the goal has been reached, our army has begun to put the finishing touches on it.
On 10 March, Yang Changqun's company received an order from his superiors to hand over a clean-up work to them. At this time, Yang Changqun was also handed over to him and the squad leader because of his outstanding ability.
The two of them walked in front of the large army, but because it had just rained and there were many mountains in Vietnam, it was difficult for everyone to walk an inch. Yang Changqun and the squad leader were better off with light equipment, and the large troops behind them were still carrying heavy weapons, and their actions were even more difficult.
Soon, Yang Changqun and the squad leader opened up a big section with the large army behind them. The only thing they could rely on was the compass in their hands, but under the guidance of the compass, the two walked to a large empty rice field.
This wide paddy field made the two of them immediately alert, if the two of them crossed this unobstructed paddy field, they would directly send themselves to the enemy's guns. Thinking that there was still a large army behind him, the squad leader decided to go over with Yang Changqun first to see what the situation was.
Second, make great contributions
So the squad leader walked in front, Yang Changqun walked behind, and the two began to cross the paddy field back to back. The squad leader has a lot of experience, and during this time he has been constantly looking at his surroundings, and his attention is attracted by a mountain. He picked up the binoculars, and sure enough, he saw a moving hat.
The squad leader immediately took out his gun and shot at it, only to hear a bang on the hill and a Vietnamese soldier fell. The squad leader immediately ran towards the mountain, and Yang Changqun also followed closely after seeing the squad leader's actions. Just when the squad leader came to the top of the mountain, Yang Changqun listened to a gunshot, and the squad leader was shot in multiple places and fell to the ground and died.
This was the first time Yang Changqun saw his comrades-in-arms so close to him, so he died in front of him. Although Yang Changqun has been on the battlefield for a while, his superiors always feel that they are recruits, so they do not give them particularly dangerous tasks.
The squad leader's sacrifice brought a huge shock to Yang Changqun, and after the shock, Yang Changqun was followed by anger, and he told himself in his heart that he must avenge the squad leader. But at this time, he also knew that if he went out rashly, he could only end up with the squad leader.
All this has to be considered in the long run, and at this moment the large forces of our army also arrived, and the attention of the enemy army was instantly attracted by the large forces. At this time, Yang Changqun was also given a chance, and the danger faced by the large army of our army under the unobstructed paddy fields was also very great.
At this critical moment, Yang Changqun discovered the enemy's hiding place, looking at the grenade in his hand, Yang Changqun thought of a way, if he directly blew up the enemy's lair, he could not only protect the large army of our army, but also avenge the squad leader.
Unfortunately, due to Yang Changqun's lack of actual combat experience and the fact that he was too nervous, he pulled the grenade's lead and threw it directly, and was thrown back by the enemy twice in a row. Fortunately, Yang Changqun was not injured, and they were all thrown to the stone.
At this time, only the last grenade on the squad leader's body remained, and before he could throw it, he only heard the company commander shouting from below: "Throw it slowly!" only to hear a huge explosion, and black smoke began to rise outward from the cave where the enemy was. Our soldiers annihilated the enemy in one fell swoop.
3. Refusal of arrangement
The cave was not an ambush for the enemy, but a small command center, and a huge explosion killed seven enemy soldiers, including one captain.
At that time, according to the regulations of the central government, killing an enemy captain like Yang Changqun was a combat hero, and then he was awarded the honorary title of a second-class hero of the Anti-Japanese War.
It can be said that countless honors have been added to Yang Changqun for a while, of course, for a hero like him, the organization is bound to take special care of him, so after he retired and returned to his hometown, the government immediately arranged work for Yang Changqun.
What is said is the iron rice bowl that others dream of, and they are either civil servants or public institutions. But what everyone didn't expect was that this was rejected by Yang Changqun.
In his own words: "I am a farmer and have never studied, so these positions should be left to more suitable people!" In the end, Yang Changqun chose to work as a security guard in a fertilizer factory in the county seat, in his opinion, he had been a soldier and had good physical fitness, and this was the most suitable job for him.

After retiring, Yang Changqun has always been an ordinary farmer, although he has always emphasized that he is just an ordinary person, but his feats back then are also destined to be extraordinary.
In 2017, the life of this hero came to an end, although he has passed away, but his spirit will be passed on forever, and his perseverance and indifference to fame and fortune will always be worth learning from.
