Professor Li Sheng led the team to carry out a series of basic and applied basic research on the common American cockroach and German cockroach (both of which are common representative species of cockroach insects) in South China, and carried out a series of basic and applied basic research on their unique biological characteristics such as "not picky eater, not afraid of dirty, strong growth, much more growth, and not hungry".

Chen Nan said that since the 70s of the 20th century, the application research of cockroaches has made rapid progress, and a number of Chinese patent medicines have been developed as raw materials, such as rehabilitation new liquid, Xinmailong injection, liver dragon capsule, etc., which are widely used in clinical practice and have achieved good results.
"In the future, our team should focus on more in-depth and systematic research on the mechanism of cockroach limb regeneration, identify new peptide and protein wound repair factors, and clarify the effective ingredients of cockroaches to promote wound repair and tissue regeneration, so as to provide basic theoretical support for the development of clinical drugs with better efficacy.
