The novel depicts the soldiers of the automobile battalion of the Ali Army Subdivision stationed at kilometer zero of the Xinzang Line in Yecheng, Xinjiang, and portrays the battalion commander Li Xiaobing, the instructor Ding Shandong, as well as Xiao Fan, Bian Chenggang, Tian Yihe and other respectable, lovely, simple and noble soldiers. During their mission in the Kunlun Mountains, they overcame many difficulties and hardships such as wind and sand invasion, altitude sickness, heavy snow and severe cold, and created an indestructible "Kunlun Iron Horse" in the "Tianlu Plateau".

The author, Wang Clan, introduced the origin and writing process of this book, and recalled his eventful years in the military camp. "I have been a car soldier in Ali for 3 years, and these stories have always haunted me from the first day I entered the car camp to the time I left the barracks. After more than 30 years, I picked up the pen and wrote "Zero Kilometer", writing about this unforgettable time. ”

Guo Yiqiang, vice chairman of the Publishers Association of China, said that the theme of "Zero Kilometer" is unique, and the author focuses on the group of Kunlun Mountain Automobile Battalion, showing the patriotism and love of the army that soldiers are not afraid of sacrifice, the touching comradeship, and the love for their relatives and the masses. While focusing on one or two characters in each chapter, the plot and characters between chapters are connected to each other, and the overall structure is natural.

Li Yiming, secretary of the Secretariat of the Chinese Writers Association, said that "Zero Kilometer" is a work of blood, soul-casting, and praise, and it is also a valuable artistic exploration in the history of military literature. The work relates the characters with the country, the times, the history, and the mission, and has not only a concrete and tangible image, but also a silhouette and clarion call of the great era. In the treatment of fiction and non-fiction, the author uses non-fictional real military life, integrates fictional plots and character building, and contributes a group of vivid Kunlun military portraits to literary history, who exalt loyalty, fearlessness and dedication in the forbidden area of life, showing a moving image of China and earth-shaking Chinese power. ”
