The novel is short, and the screenwriter must expand it, judging from the episodes that have been broadcast so far, the characters and plot have been expanded well. The setting of the story has been moved from Hong Kong to Shanghai, and the temperament between the "two cities" is almost seamless.

The details of the characters are added vividly, especially the Chenghuan mother played by He Saifei, the author asked the Shanghainese around him, many people have such a Shanghai mother, she is babbling, but she is dedicated to her children, she does have some shortcomings to save face, but at the critical moment, she can also bow her head for her children, and do everything possible to work hard for what she thinks is "marrying well", which makes people cry and laugh, He Saifei's energy is really a god.
The heroine's boyfriend, Xin Jialiang, is a typical cowardly rich second generation who wants to protect his girlfriend from having love, but has no status at home. The series does not portray a stereotypical hateful waste, but writes about the complexities of human nature, even in family relationships.

The male and female protagonists have not yet fully developed their characters. In the novel, Mai Chenghuan is a good girl in the early stage, trapped in the dilemma of a reader restraining herself and perfecting others, and the self-awareness image of the heroine is also strengthened by emphasizing the lines of "Chenghuan is under his knees" in the series.
However, some of the plots still seem a little perfunctory and not polished enough, such as the scene where the parents of Mai Chenghuan and Xin Jialiang had a conflict over dinner, and some fell into the traditional bloody plot. But the series as a whole is worth watching, in any case, it is not simply about the love story of an urban woman, but trying to peel back the shell of human nature, explore Chinese family relationships, and the situation of women in marriage and love.
