Recently, I have received a lot of messages from friends saying that although the system of our Apple mobile phone is relatively smooth, after a long time, other systems of the mobile phone will appear in other systems to deal with garbage, some may reach more than a dozen G, dozens of G, and even more than 100G!
That's why the iOS system has always had a bug that takes up a large part of your iPhone's available storage space. This problem persists in iOS 17.4 and 17.5, but luckily, there are some solutions that don't require erasing the iPhone, and this method has a noticeable effect on system data that takes up more than 30G, and a small effect on data that takes up more than 10G. It is not guaranteed to be 100% effective, but it is harmless, non-toxic and has no side effects.
Preparation
If you want to know how much the current iPhone system data (other capacity) is occupied, you can select "General" > "iPhone Storage" in iOS "Settings", slide to the bottom of the page and click "System Data" to check. For example, on my iPhone, the system data occupies 14.5GB of territory.
Cleanup begins
Step 1: Close all background apps
Just like when we need to put away the clutter before cleaning the room, we first close all the background apps to make sure that no programs are secretly taking up space.
Step 2: Enter "Airplane Mode"
Next, turn on airplane mode, turn off all wireless signals, and put your device into "stealth".
Step 3: Time travel
Open the iOS Date & Time Settings on your iPhone, select "General" from iOS "Settings", and go to "Date & Time".
Go to Set Back-General-Date & Time, change the date to today, one year later, for example, today is April 11, 2024, then change it to April 11, 2025, and keep the iPhone on the desktop for one minute after the change (important)
Directly turn off the date and time "Automatic Setting", directly adjust the date to three months later, for example, April 11, and one month after the adjustment is July 11, after the setting is completed, click "General" in the upper left corner to complete the setting.
Re-enter the system data, check the occupancy, and if successful, the system data has been reduced by this time! Don't forget to change the date back to automatic and turn off the airplane mode when you're done
It is usually recommended that after the iPhone is upgraded to the new version of iOS, or if you find that the storage has exceeded 20GB, you can do it once to release more temporary system data and update the archive.
Terminology explained
- iOS system data: usually refers to the storage space occupied by the iOS operating system and various system services.
- Airplane Mode: Turn off your device's wireless communication features, including cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.
- Background apps: Apps that are open but not currently displayed on the screen.
- Bright screen: Refers to the screen is turned on and the content is displayed.
- Storage space: The amount of storage inside the device that is used to store data.
