I'm Danae, and I'm currently a recent graduate of Visual Communication Design at Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea, and I'm a relatively young student in the same academic year - born in 2001 in the post-00s.

Part 1申请规划与录取选校

Break through yourself within half a year and enjoy every adventure.

Huangyi was originally my first choice

I started preparing my portfolio relatively late, in April '23, and I got the first batch of admission to Huangyi in November '23.

But I'm a person who is more motivated to face larger plans or events, and I will continue to challenge myself and enjoy reinforcing my style and learning more software and skills while working on my portfolio.

So within half a year, the integration of works became the focus of my life. I'm actually more anxious, so I may think about the direction of my portfolio and judge whether I have time to apply to schools during my breaks. Especially in July and August, I flew back from Korea and worked on a portfolio of works in Shanghai.

In fact, there is no big trouble in the middle, because things can always be solved easily under the communication with the teacher and their own research and brainstorming.

So far, I have received 3 admissions, and I have already made a decision. I don't have a big demand for the school environment, because for me, I will develop feelings for it as long as I am in an environment for a while.

I like Edinburgh's architecture the most, because it gives me a kind of castle charm, a certain contrast with the environment in which I used to live, and a sense of novelty. However, the results of Edinburgh will come out very late, and Royal Arts is my first choice, and the field of communication is broader, and the research directions I can choose are richer and freer, and there will be more opportunities in London, so I am more determined to choose Royal Arts' MFA Communication.

Part 2 Majors & Portfolios

My major has become a boost and incubator for me to see the world.

I think design can be a help for me to see the world, and at the same time, it also enhances my perception of society and life, and gradually improves my thinking and understanding of the world. I hope that my career will not make me feel burdened and the dregs of life, but a friend who will make me more complete and rich.

The finished product of my design is the discovery and in-depth study of the confusion I experience in daily life, the resonance generated by dialogue with other people, and even the formation of a certain social psychological phenomenon, which I prefer to combine with philosophy, psychology and literature.

In the process of formally studying design at Hongdae, I have been exploring my own design style, art style, etc., and I want to find the visual language that best suits my personality and way of thinking.

In the process, I found it difficult to abandon the pictorial expressions that I had loved since kindergarten, and from an early age I was fascinated by Vincent van Gogh's vivid and mysterious starry sky, and later I also enjoyed reading Monet's paintings, especially the Water Lilies and Nihonbashi series.

I especially enjoyed collecting Monet's different water lilies in the various exhibitions, which gave me a sense of calm.

In one exhibition, I was fascinated by Klimt's "Three Stages of Women", which is no longer a realistic depiction of natural scenes or people, but adds effects such as collage and texture, and to some extent adds a design technique. It made me realize that art and design can be combined.

The reason why I chose design is because of the aspect of employment, and I have a great interest in how design changes people's lives, so I also took courses such as design psychology during my undergraduate studies.

I would like to share with you February 30 - this is my undergraduate graduation project, which is a picture book with literary overtones.

It centers on the inner growth process of the experiencer "me", and records the impossible things I discovered in the process, which affected my self-liberation. The content is divided into "The World and Me", "The Wave of Emotions and Me", "Me and the Disappearing Self", and "The Transformation of Emotions and the Destination of Love", exploring ways to get along with oneself in the midst of constant doubts about the world.

It's like piecing together a complete version of yourself with a piece of prose.

Just as February 30 does not exist, it may still be challenging and impossible for me to really give myself complete freedom, but I can already feel the effort and struggle I have put in in the words and images.

In terms of images, I use watercolor, crayons, and oil paintings, using the main colors of "blue", "red", "yellow", and "white" to outline some pictures that are in line with the text and theme. February 30 contains my expectations for a free and colorful future.

Because there are many ways to paint, the final output needs to be considered in the arrangement of the overall book layout, as well as the painting style is also unified and modified.

In addition, in order to make the book layout look like it breaks the neatness of the original album without affecting the reading, I used a more lively and free text layout, and also achieved the echo of the text layout with the meaning and picture of the text itself.

Part 3: Summary of application experience

The mature and stable teachers are also very good!

My main mentor is Ms. Pan, I think she is very demanding, and she is also very experienced, she is always able to keenly cultivate my technical proficiency and aesthetics during the production process, encourage me to use the expression I want, but also evaluate the feasibility of this method, and constantly urge me to adjust and optimize.

I think that as long as I push my best according to the plan she gave me, and occasionally push myself, I will definitely be able to complete the work relatively completely. She also gave me some examples of the final layout, and then let me try it according to my own understanding and my own work, and then I will make phased adjustments and deletions according to the needs of different schools.

In addition, Ms. G is also a very good teacher, and the difference between her and Ms. Pan is that she will respect my personal style more, allowing me to "play" with the design while encouraging me to make appropriate and reasonable adjustments.

With the combination of these two teachers, my portfolio highlights my style and looks more professional and high. It feels like the whole is still a perfect combination.

After coming to Lingchuang to listen to the audition, I was very impressed by the works of teachers and students, the case studies and the direction of design style. The self-study space on the campus is very large, the atmosphere is also very good, the surrounding environment is relatively quiet, there is a canteen downstairs, a coffee shop, and there are many printing shops around, which is very convenient.

When I really go to offline learning, I feel that every child is very serious about doing their own works or going to the small classroom to teach with the teacher, and if there are questions, they can quickly find the teacher to discuss, and sometimes they can get feedback from several teachers together. The learning process was still very enjoyable. After getting to know my friends from different majors around me, I occasionally order milk tea or go out to eat Western food together after completing the day's tasks. When I went back to Korea, a girl around me drew me a very cute picture and gave it to me, and I felt that it was a very rewarding time!

Finally, I would like to say to the younger students of Zero Creation: no matter what the purpose, it is good to feel a different life, challenge the experience and package yourself, and try not to push yourself too hard.

Of course, you should also put some pressure on yourself appropriately, follow the tutor to complete the goals at each stage, and study and challenge yourself with the mentality of being able to go to the best target college for yourself.

But after submitting all the applications, I have to hold the mentality that the school I like the most may not want me, don't expect too much and don't despair too much, I believe that the goal we go to in the end will definitely make us gain something, anyway, I want to be a student, and learning is the happiest mentality.
