Since last year, the prices of Chinese herbal medicines have shown a general upward trend, and the prices of some Chinese herbal medicines have risen exponentially. Which varieties have risen more and what are the reasons for the price increase?
At half past eight in the morning, the Chinese herbal medicine market in Bozhou, Anhui Province was already very lively, gathering many pharmacists and consumers. It is the largest Chinese herbal medicine trading center in the country, with more than 2,800 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines traded here every day.
In the interview, many buyers told reporters that in recent times, the prices of many widely used bulk medicinal materials have risen.
Buyers: Atractylodes, Danpi and Paeonia have risen sharply, Atractylodes was about 60 yuan per kilogram last year, and about 180 yuan per kilogram this year.
Although the price increase is not small, the market for these medicinal materials is still very hot. At a shop specializing in atractylodes, the owner is packing herbs and shipping them to a decoction piece factory downstream.
Anhui medicinal material dealer: This truck is about 260 kilograms, sent to Zhejiang. In the past year, Atractylodes has risen by about 100 yuan per kilogram intermittently, at the beginning of 2023 it was between 30 yuan and 35 yuan per kilogram, and now it is between 150 yuan and 200 yuan per kilogram.
Not only the prices of common medicinal materials have generally risen, but the prices of some unpopular niche medicinal materials have also risen.
CCTV reporter Zuo Jiayu: This medicinal material is called cat's claw grass, which is named because it looks like the claws of a kitten, and cat's claw grass is also the variety with the largest price increase in the market recently, from the same period last year to the present, the price of cat's claw grass has risen 8 times to 10 times.
According to the statistics of Bozhou Customs, in the first two months of 2024, the export value of Chinese herbal medicines in Bozhou City was 85.163 million yuan, an increase of 15.0%.
Wang Peng, general manager of a pharmaceutical company in Bozhou, Anhui Province: In 2023, the overall export of our company will be about 6.5 million US dollars, and it has reached almost 3 million US dollars in the first quarter of this year, and it is expected that the export volume will increase by about 50% this year.
