On October 7 last year, Hamas militants burst into Israel from Gaza, killing about 1,200 Israelis and taking hundreds more hostages.
After that, a large number of Israeli troops began to attack the Gaza Strip, vowing to "suppress and destroy Hamas" so that it no longer poses any threat and to bring all the hostages home.
Due to the huge gap in military strength between the Israeli army and Hamas, at the beginning of the war, many people thought that Hamas would not last more than a week.
Now, six months later, the Israeli army is still fighting Hamas. This begs the question, how long will it take for Israel to achieve its stated goal of eliminating Hamas?
1. What is Israel's record so far at the beginning of the war?
At least 33,000 Palestinians (more than 70 percent of them women and children) have been killed, much of Gaza has been destroyed, thousands more Hamas fighters have been killed, and much of the vast network of tunnels underground in Gaza that Hamas has used to launch its attacks has been destroyed.
According to the latest "war record" report released by the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the IDF has killed about 13,000 Hamas fighters since the war began, but does not say how to calculate that number.
Before the conflict broke out, Hamas was generally believed to have around 30,000 militants in Gaza.
In other words, if the Israeli Defense Ministry's "record" report is not falsified or exaggerated, there are still more than 17,000 Hamas fighters waiting to be eliminated by the Israeli army.
Based on these figures, it will take about eight months for Israel to finish destroying the Hamas fighters.
