In 1963, Wang Delun, an 18-year-old high school graduate, came to the 89th Regiment from his hometown in Shandong and has been rooted here ever since.
For more than 60 years, he has made his own contributions to the cause of consolidating and building the frontier with a serious work attitude and a spirit of dedication and dedication. From the high-spirited young people who built the frontier to the gray-haired old army reclamation today, Wang Delun has witnessed the miracle of this Gobi becoming a new city.
Tears still flowed uncontrollably
In 1963, Wang Delun had just graduated from high school, and many people in his hometown could not eat because of the three-year difficult period. His uncle, who worked at the Qiyi Cotton Mill in Xinjiang, told him that there was a need for people everywhere in Xinjiang to find jobs and have enough to eat, so he decided to come to Xinjiang. Despite his family's opposition, he decided that he was an adult and needed to share the responsibilities for his family. He remembers very well that at that time, the Urumqi Labor Bureau was recruiting skilled workers, and the requirements were high school students, so he signed up with the idea of giving it a try. Within a few days, the staff of the Labor Bureau found him and told him that he had been hired and that he would be assigned to work in the Fifth Agricultural Division.
In September 1963, Wang Delun came to the Friendship Farm in Bole City, which is the predecessor of the current 89th Regiment. At that time, it was overgrown with reeds, and there was no road at all. Walking on flat ground, as long as you see smoke coming from a chimney on the ground, it means that the place is a nest and there are people living in it. To be honest, when he first came to the farm from his hometown in Shandong, Wang Delun had a big psychological gap, and he felt that this place was too desolate compared to his hometown. But Shandong people have a stubbornness in their bones, and no matter how difficult the path they choose, they must stick to it, so he stayed.
When Wang Delun first came to the 6th Company of the 89th Regiment, it was desolate as far as the eye could see, and there was not even a single house. The company commander led him to a den, which contained only a bed made of boards, with an unopened military bedding and a washbasin. The company commander told him: "This is your dormitory, rest first, and when dinner is ready, I will call you." Such conditions are already very good compared to more difficult places, but for Wang Delun, who left home for the first time, it was still difficult to accept for a while, and tears couldn't stop flowing.
The tempering received in the group field is unforgettable for Wang Delun. What he still remembers is the simplest and most basic things, such as the sound of the morning trumpet, such as the primitive tools used at that time.
What Wang Delun remembers most is that in 1965, the farm set up a maintenance platoon to be responsible for the operation of the whole regiment's agricultural machinery. As a cultured young man, Wang Delun was selected to become an agricultural machinery driver. At that time, the maintenance personnel and vehicles were managed by the company. Wang Delun is in charge of the open-chain tractor, and his main task is to plow the wasteland, working around the clock, and the workload is surprisingly large. A tractor is equipped with 6 agricultural mechanics, and it needs to work in two shifts, day and night, and eat and live in the field.
In those days, Wang Delun was most afraid of plowing at night, because there were many wolves, and they often followed the locomotive with green light in their eyes, which made people feel scared. When the tractor was driving, it was so bumpy that it shook people to the ground, and there were bruises all over the head and arms, and sometimes they even knocked their heads, and they simply bandaged it, and continued to drive the tractor to plow the ground without taking a break. This made him understand that when working, he should establish the concept of enduring hardships, being able to endure hardships, and not being afraid of hardships.
The content of labor is different in each period, but the subtle effect of labor on everyone is always the same. During the decade from 1978 to 1988, Wang Delun's main task was to open up land and dig alkali canals. In order to stimulate everyone's enthusiasm for labor, the regiment and the company will organize various labor competitions. Inspired by a sense of honor, everyone treats labor in a positive and high-spirited state.
Sitting in the car and huddled with the cattle and sheep to hurry
During his days working on the farm, Wang Delun experienced the transformation from a student to an employee, learned to live independently, and adapted to the environment and lifestyle of the farm. Wang Delun deeply experienced the hardships and dedication at work, and also made him understand the importance of thinking, labor and life exercise. These experiences had a profound impact on his growth and outlook on life.
Wang Delun remembers that when he was the director of the 89th Regiment Repair Factory, he once needed to go to Urumqi City to repair the lack of parts for the tractor. Time is of the essence and the task is heavy. Wang Delun set off immediately, but he didn't expect the car to break down halfway. It was getting late, so he tried to take a ride. Luckily, he got on a tractor from Ili to Urumqi, pulling cattle and sheep. There was no passenger seat in the tractor's cab, so he had to sit in the car and huddle with the cattle and sheep to get on the road. As a result, he was covered in manure, and he was squeezed by cattle and hit by sheep along the way, which was very painful. After a difficult two-day trek, Wang Delun finally arrived at Jinghe and got back on the shuttle bus to Urumqi.
Life is to face positively, with a healthy body, rich knowledge, and a flexible mind, to live seriously and hard. This kind of life has both challenges and gains, and it is always worth cherishing and pursuing.
Very happy with the new building
Wang Delun still clearly remembers that in 1968, when he and his wife first got married, they lived in a nest of more than 10 square meters. When it rains, it will leak in the nest, and my shoes will be soaked in water in the morning. Later, Wang Delun made his own clods and built a 70-square-meter earthen house. Although I moved out of Diwozi, the living conditions are still not ideal. The floor was not tiled, the roof was not tiled, and it often rained heavily outside and light rain inside. Every few years, they have to go to the house, and in the summer, the children are bitten by mosquitoes and have bags all over their bodies.
With the reform and opening up, the regiment has accelerated the pace of construction of small towns. The first buildings were built, which brought about a sea change in everyone's lives. Wang Delun used his savings to buy an 80-square-meter building. This homely home has a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, and the children have their own separate room. After living in the upstairs, Wang Delun felt very comfortable, this 80-square-meter building, their family has lived for 20 years.
With the passage of time, the pace of construction of small towns in Tuanchang has been accelerated, and more and more new buildings have been built, and the area has become larger. As a result, Wang Delun and his family invested 190,000 yuan in 2015 to buy a new building of 120 square meters in the 89th Regiment and Jingyuan Community. The new home is spacious and bright, with all the appliances you need, underfloor heating in the winter and air conditioning in the summer. Beautiful downstairs and complete fitness equipment. Wang Delun is very satisfied with the new building.
The changes in Wang Delun's family's housing not only witnessed the great improvement of the quality of life of an ordinary family, but also recorded the pace of reform and opening up, recorded the party's policy of enriching the people, and reflected the continuous improvement of the quality of life of the workers in the regimental field. These changes have witnessed the development of our country, the prosperity of our regiments, the progress of our society, and the betterment of our lives.
