On September 23, 2020, the Jiading District Market Supervision Bureau inspected the first branch of Shanghai Yunting Hotel Co., Ltd. However, after checking the purchase records of raw materials, it was found that the so-called "Yangtze River" catfish were actually artificially farmed. Although the fish is not caught in the Yangtze River, such false propaganda violates the provisions of the Anti-Unfair Competition Law of the People's Republic of China, and the Jiading District Market Supervision Bureau has punished the hotel according to law.
To help restore the healthy and sustainable reproduction of fish in the Yangtze River, the Shanghai Municipal Market Supervision System is in action. Since January 1 last year, the key waters of the Yangtze River Basin have been banned from fishing for a period of ten years. Under the unified deployment of the Municipal Party Committee and the Municipal Government and the State Administration of Market Supervision, the city's market supervision system promotes the special action of market sales of illegally caught catches in the Yangtze River Basin. The special action highlights four major work priorities, one is to carry out market supervision and inspection with the focus on aquatic product trading markets, supermarkets, and catering service units. The second is to carry out special network monitoring with the city's e-commerce platform, transaction websites, fresh APP and the city's online stores as the target, and found 122 suspected illegal clues and transferred 61 clues. The third is to increase the monitoring and supervision of advertising, check more than 520,000 advertisements of various types, and find 11 illegal advertisements suspected of being banned from fishing in the Yangtze River. The fourth is to carry out inspections of fishing bans in the tourism industry and increase the scope and intensity of exploring and sorting out illegal clues.
According to statistics, 73,000 law enforcement personnel dispatched 107,500 inspections of various aquatic products trading enterprises, 1.33 million times of monitoring of e-commerce platforms (websites), 4,707 times of administrative guidance for e-commerce platforms, and 187 pieces of illegal transaction information that were urged to be removed (deleted and blocked). 68 cases were filed and investigated, and 33 cases were closed, of which 4 cases were publicized and promoted to the whole country by the General Administration as typical cases.
