When you return to your hometown during the holidays and stroll through the bazaar, you can always see the faltering old people who are still trying to make ends meet. In the busy farming season, these old people who should have enjoyed their old age are still working the yellow earth to sow hope. Without truly experiencing the hardships of rural life, it is impossible to fully understand the pain and plight of rural people. They have worked all their lives, and they have been marked by illness.
Sometimes, some experts make unrealistic suggestions and opinions about the countryside, and these remarks often provoke laughter from the Chinese people. However, these so-called "experts" do not understand the real situation in the countryside, and their statements only add some jokes to the world.
Despite the hardships of life, the old people in their hometown have always maintained a resilient and optimistic attitude. Their smiles seem to be able to resolve all difficulties. Every era has its own unique challenges and dilemmas, and what we can do is do what we can to understand, care for and help them. If we don't have a deep understanding of their lives and predicaments, the best thing to do is to keep our mouths shut and not make high-minded comments or point fingers.
Downstairs, I often meet old people scavenging for waste. They are unkempt and shabby, and every time they rummage through the trash cans, they always have an embarrassed but polite smile on their faces when they see someone passing by. They hunched over and trembling from one trash can to another with crutches. Perhaps it was the perennial fatigue, and every time they walked around, the sound of their chests being tight and panting could be heard in the alley.
I will do my best to help them, for example, when I see an old man selling vegetables in the cold wind, I will buy their leftovers and let them go home early. These insignificant gestures may bring them a glimmer of warmth and hope.
When I discard the cardboard or bottles downstairs, I can sort them out and arrange them neatly next to the trash can. Although sometimes we can't help but want to give the fruit or cake in our bags to the elderly people who are scavenging, we should be cautious considering the physical discomfort and unnecessary trouble that may be caused. Doing good requires not only zeal, but also consideration of actual economic strength.
Although the prosperity of society has exceeded our expectations, there are still many sick and elderly people in the vast rural land. In the dark corners of the bustling city, there are also elderly people who are worried about their lives. They may not be known, but their pain and suffering deserve our attention.
The world needs good things to embellish, but we also can't ignore the imperfect flaws. The world is moving at a rapid pace, so officials and entrepreneurs might as well stop and focus on those elderly people in need. If we are in awe, we will realize that the old people of today will also be us in a few years. We can't ignore them, but we should do our part to help them.
