And in January, a not so wide MPV model won the first place in the MPV sales list.

1. Wuling Shenche continued to top the list, and the Denza D9 DM-i held a solid position

Opening the MPV sales list in January, it can be seen that Wuling Hongguang has become the first place in the sales list of this model. As a rear-drive god car that can be used both for home use and to pull goods, Wuling Hongguang's position in the market is difficult to be shaken by other models. The cheap price of 46,500-60,900 naturally won good sales.

However, it is not easy for the expensive Denza D9 DM-i to achieve a monthly sales of 8030. The reason why DENZA has been recognized by the market is because of the solid materials, rich configurations, and long battery life without range anxiety, so that this car has always been among the best in the mid-to-high-end MPV market.

At the same time, in the MPV sales list, GAC Group's two models also achieved good sales. GAC Trumpchi M8 and GAC achieved 5,470 units, while Trumpchi M6 sold 4,606 units.

However, among these MPVs, Toyota may be the biggest winner.

2. The two-car strategy is powerful, and the sales of Saena Grevia double-car are tens of thousands

Toyota has adopted the same two-car strategy as Volkswagen in China. That is, it will cooperate with the FAW Group and the GAC Group to produce parallel sister models at the same time. This strategy is not only applied to sedan and SUV models, but also in the MPV field, Toyota has also launched two models, the Sena and the Grevia.

The two cars sold well in January, with the Sena selling 6,976 units in a single month as the more famous classic model, and the Grevia selling 5,368 units. The exterior of the two cars is similar, and both use a 2.5-liter gasoline-electric hybrid as the powertrain. It's just that Grevia is more sporty, and Sena's design style is more stable and generous.

In January, the two cars combined sold more than 12,000 units. If the two sisters were to be considered as one car, there would be no match for them in January's sales charts.

3. Buick GL8 is no longer strong, and new and old forces have collapsed

In previous years, the Buick GL8 has been the dominant presence among mid-to-large SUVs. However, in the January sales list, the GL8 sold only 4,989 units, ranking sixth on the list.

Although it doesn't seem that sales of close to 5,000 units are not dismal, it is important to know that the GL8 is a model that can steadily sell 10,000 units a month until October 2023. Today's monthly sales performance is cut in half on the one hand because there are many strong competitors in the market, and on the other hand, because GL8 has not been replaced for too long, and today's product strength seems to be a little out of step with the times.

The classic models of other joint venture car companies have also shown a trend of weak sales, and the Honda Odyssey, which also plays a two-car strategy, has sold only 2,316 units, although Elysian has obtained 3,912 sales by cutting prices, but it is still not enough to see compared to Toyota next door.

In addition, some electric MPVs are generally not selling well. The highly anticipated Great Wall Wei brand Gaoshan sold only 1,091 units in January, while the Zeekrypton 009, which is also a pure electric car, only sold 704 units.

Perhaps the sales of the two versions of the VOYAH Dreamer explain why these BEV MPVs are not selling well, with the VOYAH Dreamer PHEV selling 3,208 units in January, but only 331 units of the EV version.

Obviously, the market's acceptance of pure electric MPVs is not high. After all, range anxiety plagues many pure electric MPV owners. In addition to home use, business reception is also a lot of MPV use scenarios. When picking up customers, there is no power halfway, and the dilemma of taking the boss to find charging piles everywhere may become a nightmare for many MPV drivers.

In short, at present, the new and old brands in China's MPV market are staggered, and Toyota and Buick are still trying to stick to their own markets. But some of the old forces have loosened their territory.
