Why upgrade?
What are the disadvantages of the shock absorber spring of the original car? It makes people want to replace it.
After our careful study, there are two obvious problems with the shock absorber spring of the original car:
1. The total length of the spring is too short, which makes the total suspension travel restricted by the spring and cannot be fully released.
2. Its hardness is on the high side, which affects the simulation of the driving attitude.
What are the benefits of upgrading?
1. The suspension stroke can be completely released, so that the wheels are closer to the ground when driving on extreme road surfaces, and the probability of the wheels losing driving force off the ground is reduced.
2. More closely resembling the attitude of the real Unimog, the suspension system absorbs vibrations transmitted from the road surface more efficiently.
Will the upgrade destroy the structure of the original car?
This upgrade is completely non-destructive and does not damage any of the structure of the original car.
First, remove the front suspension shock spring from the original car
The spring on the right is a new spring that is about to be loaded into the car
It can be seen that its length is significantly larger than that of the original car
But this does not cause the head of the car to go up
Because it's softer than the original car spring
Install the attachment parts for the new spring
Paint the new springs
Loading is about to be made
In addition to the two advantages mentioned above, the new spring has a much better look – it has more laps and looks closer to the Unimog prototype.
How do you determine if a car's suspension system has excellent performance?
The first is that the foundation should be good - not too soft, not too hard.
If it is too soft, the vehicle will lose its effective support, the driving stability will be reduced, and the posture will not be too beautiful.
If it is too stiff, the vehicle will be affected by the undulations of the road surface and produce more obvious bumps, and the driving state will show a bouncing state, and when encountering cross-axle road conditions, the wheels will also leave the ground earlier and lose driving force.
Ideally, when one of the wheels is lifted to the limit, the suspension has just run out of compression stroke, the rear wheel on the same side does not hang off the ground, and the travel of the other wheel is fully released.
Through the above two pictures, I believe you have seen the significance of this modification and upgrade.
It's not a big deal to just change the two springs, but there's a lot of twists and turns to get the right springs.
In order to achieve the perfect performance of a top-of-the-line model, it is definitely worth the time to repeatedly tune and match the right materials.
Because I believe that beauty is always in the details.
The following short video will show the actual effect of this modification more intuitively, if you happen to have this modification need, please contact [Robot Jack].
