AC Milan team history today: In 1990, Basten doubled and beat Baggio, allowing 2 chases and 3 reversals against the purple lily
On February 4, 1990, in a match in the 23rd round of the 1989-1990 Serie A season, the Rossoneri AC Milan played away against the Purple Lily Fiorentina.
The Rossoneri during the Milan dynasty had a lavish squad and despite Dutch pigtails coach Ruud Gullit being sidelined through injury, boss Sacchi was able to field a star-studded starting line-up. Fiorentina coached by Giorgi are also very strong, with superstar Robert Baggio and Czechoslovakian center forward Kubik at 1.87m in attack, and Brazilian stalwart Dunga and current AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli in central midfield.

In the 23rd minute, Baggio broke the deadlock with a penalty kick to give Fiorentina a 1-0 lead at home and keep the score until the end of the first half.
In the second half, Sacchi replaced Evani in an attempt to strengthen the attack. But the Purple Lily scored a lightning goal, and in the 47th minute, Kubik scored to give AC Milan a 2-0 deficit.
In the 55th minute, the Rossoneri responded quickly, and substitute Evani made a contribution to make the score 1-2.
In the 60th minute, Basten scored a penalty and AC Milan levelled the score at 2-2. Under Milan's strong attack, the Fiorentina defence was full of holes.
In the 66th minute, Fiorentina sent another point, and Basten once again scored a brace, and AC Milan overtook Fiorentina 3-2. After that, neither team scored again, and AC Milan took two points away with an away win.
AC Milan have been on the back for most of the season, winning seven in a row and going unbeaten in 12 games after winning the Purple Lily away. Unfortunately, AC Milan did not perform well in the closing stages of the league campaign, missing out on the Serie A title and successfully defending their title in the Champions League.
