On January 29, Xinhua News Agency reported that IOC President Bach announced that the first e-sports Olympics will be held next year or in 2026 at the latest.
Bach said that while the format of the competition is not yet 100 per cent, it will follow the model of last year's Olympic Esports Week in Singapore.
The four-day Olympic Esports Week 2023 in Singapore attracted international players from 110 countries, covering 10 sports, including dance, archery, design, baseball, and chess.
Bach revealed that some of the most popular video games will be introduced, and League of Legends, as one of the most popular esports games in the world, has a fierce competition and a large player community around the world, and is expected to become one of the important events of the first esports Olympics. This also means that video games will be the center of attention at the future Olympic Games, providing a great opportunity for esports fans and players around the world to showcase their prowess.
The exact format and schedule of the competition have not yet been determined, but Bach stressed that significant progress has been made and plans to host the first Olympic eSports Games by 2026 at the latest.
