On October 18, 2023, BYD's first 4.5-ton urban logistics light truck equipped with DM technology T5 was released.
It is the first 4.5-ton hybrid model built by BYD, and it is a new answer sheet submitted by BYD to the logistics and transportation market.
● The power generation is 90 kilowatts, and the comprehensive range is 1000 kilometers
In terms of power, the BYD hybrid T5 is equipped with a DM1.5T hybrid engine, which adopts the same technology as the hybrid on the passenger car, such as Miller cycle, high compression ratio, turbocharging, recent variable phase VVT, silent chain timing system, high-strength and high-modal body design, low-tension piston ring, low-friction motion system, low-viscosity oil, all-aluminum cylinder body cover and resin parts and other technologies, so that the thermal efficiency of this engine exclusive to light trucks reaches 41%.
Adopt a highly integrated design: power generation, drive electronic control adopts two-in-one design, engine, generator, controller, speed increaser (increase engine speed to meet the working conditions of the generator) are integrated design, can achieve volume minimization, at the same time, generator controller and drive motor controller are two-in-one design, can reduce the connected cables, reduce energy consumption, improve the power density of the product, so that the generator can reach the maximum power generation of 90 kilowatts.
In terms of battery, it is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate blade battery with the same origin as a passenger car, with a total battery power of 18.3 kWh, a pure electric range of 50 kilometers, and a maximum comprehensive range of 1,000 kilometers for gasoline and electricity.
The world's first DM hybrid power blade battery is perfectly integrated with the frame, and the blade battery replaces the frame beam, which increases the strength of the frame and makes the battery layout more reasonable. The blade battery pack adopts a very stable material crystal structure + the world's leading thermal management system, and uses direct cooling to control the temperature of the battery, so that the efficiency of the battery is increased by 17%. The blade battery has no module structure, and the volume efficiency can be increased by 50%.
The use of flat wire motors can increase the power density by 30%, and the peak power of the integrated drive axle can reach 150 kilowatts, so that the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in only 5.5 seconds.
In terms of temperature control, the working temperature of the engine, the motor and the electronic control system are different, the engine adopts an independent high-temperature circulation system, and the motor, electronic control and other systems adopt a low-temperature cooling system, which is more reasonable temperature control, which can improve the thermal efficiency of the engine on the one hand, and on the other hand, it can also make the electronic control and motor get a better working temperature.
● All models are equipped with ESC electronic braking as standard, making driving safer
In terms of safety, the BYD hybrid T5 comes standard with the ESC body electronic stability system, which continuously monitors the wheel speed through wheel speed sensors and steering inputs, and if the sensors detect that the driver is losing control of the vehicle, the system will combine or release the brakes of each tire to correct oversteer or understeer, allowing the vehicle to avoid serious accidents.
It is not surprising that the braking system is hydraulically operated with a front disc and rear drum. However, BYD, which is "king in technology", is not satisfied with this, and adopts the layout of the brake master cylinder assembly and integrated brake module assembly in this car. In the traditional vehicle with oil brake, based on the vacuum source generated by the engine, the pedaling intensity of the brake pedal (oil brake) is reduced, but in the pure electric vehicle model, because the engine is canceled, if you want to obtain vacuum, you need to install a vacuum pump separately, which not only increases the volume and energy consumption, but also produces noise when it works, which is inconsistent with the design concept of pure electric vehicles.

Compared with the current general braking system, this system cancels the way the master cylinder pushes the sub-cylinder in the past, and this technology has been fully verified in BYD passenger cars, and there is no risk in terms of safety.
● EPS electric power steering makes steering easier
In terms of the steering system, if the traditional pure electric vehicle still adopts the hydraulic power assist method, it is necessary to add an additional set of hydraulic pumps to provide pressure to the steering hydraulic system.
The EPS electric power steering system adopted by BYD allows users to get more comfortable steering wheel torque when controlling the vehicle in any scenario. At the same time, the EPS system can also make the steering more precise.
The principle is to adjust the torque we are steering by changing the current of the electric power steering, so that the vehicle can get a more relaxed steering experience regardless of whether the vehicle is empty/heavy or in different road adhesion situations. In the same way, when the vehicle is empty/heavy, the driving speed is different, by adjusting the steering torque of the steering machine, on the one hand, we can get a lighter handling experience at low speeds, and the steering is relatively calm at high speeds, and the driving is safer.
In terms of reliability, the long-pass current of this EPS system is 24V direct current after the battery pack is stepped, and in case of battery pack failure, it will immediately cut into the 24V battery, so that our vehicles can ensure safe driving at any time.
● Standard 10.1-inch large screen, cab support "lying flat"
The BYD hybrid T5 interior is equipped with a 10.1-inch smart large screen, in addition to the display and operation of functions, it can also control air conditioning and navigation through voice control, and even realize destination search, map navigation control, online music search and other functions through voice.
Equipped with DiLink intelligent vehicle machine system, it integrates many freight APPs and integrates them, making operation and order receiving more efficient. In terms of navigation maps, a special navigation system for trucks is pre-installed to avoid the occurrence of problems such as prohibitions and height limits due to navigation.
At the same time, through the vehicle machine system, the remote management of the vehicle can also be realized, and the functions of remote unlocking, remote opening and closing of the air conditioner, and remote viewing of the vehicle status can be realized through the mobile phone APP.
The new car adopts EPB electronic handbrake and knob shifting, and the position is integrated in the position of the center console, compared with the traditional model shift mechanism, handbrake mechanism encroaches on the seat design, BYD hybrid T5 does not have any bulge in the middle of the three through seats, users can also "lie flat" when taking a break in the car.
● Test drive feeling: light steering and fast braking
Subsequently, we had a simple test drive of the hybrid T5 on the test track of BYD's Huai'an factory. There are 4 main aspects of the biggest feeling:
1. Quiet: In pure electric mode, because the site of this BYD hybrid T5 is completely based on pure electric vehicles, there are no motors and other facilities on the chassis that act on the accessory system, so that this car is very quiet when driving.
2. Fast acceleration: The 150 kilowatt electric drive axle has a very strong power, in the empty state, I didn't even dare to step on the accelerator pedal to 100%, and under half of the opening, it can make me feel a very obvious feeling of pushing back. Although I was not able to test the 0-50 km/h acceleration time, I judged from experience that the manufacturer's claimed 5.5 seconds at full load was not a problem at all.
3. Light steering: I tried to feel the steering torque of the steering wheel in situ and at 50 km/h. At 50 km/h, the steering wheel of this car can clearly feel the increase in steering force compared to the same place, which makes me feel very relieved to drive.
4. Rapid braking: The braking system of this car can be divided into two situations, the first is light pedaling, at this time the vehicle will judge my deceleration intention, and the electric drive axle will begin to reverse tow so as to realize the deceleration of the vehicle, and the second is heavy pedaling, the IPB system can quickly establish the braking pressure, and apply braking force according to the attachment of each tire, so that the vehicle can stop at the shortest braking distance.
