Portuguese architecture studio OODA recently unveiled the design for the Hora Vertikale high-rise residential complex, a unique stacked tower with a clustered façade that will redefine Tirana's skyline. With an above-ground area of 55,000 square meters and a height of 140 meters, the first phase of the project has been given the green light and is scheduled to start next spring. Hora Vertikale is a high-rise residential area known as "Hora" in ancient Albanian, which promises to be a groundbreaking project in Albania's capital. Beyond the towering residential buildings, a new park and a range of amenities will be opened for residents and visitors alike. The project extends its reach to the local community, envisioning the construction of a unique vertical village in a sprawling green city.

In order to reflect the prosperity of Tirana through high-rise residential areas, OODA's architects put sustainability in mind. The use of locally sourced materials from Albania not only minimizes the carbon footprint, but also supports the development of the local economy. The design blends urban and rural elements to transform the tower into an iconic landmark. The buildings have both a monumental imposing atmosphere and a local atmosphere, and all have unique facades that offer different views from different vantage points in the city. From a distance, the architecture of the high-rise residential complex shows a unique façade that is an abstract symbol of Tirana's hybrid structure. From a closer look, from the main road back to the park at the back, the playful interplay of the project becomes apparent.

With abstraction and synthesis as the basic means, OODA attempts to give a concrete interpretation of Tirana's uniqueness through high-rise residential areas. The entire project is made up of seven different types of cubes, each of which is seven storeys high, which is the average height of most buildings in Tirana. Each cube embodies a unique concept related to art and is inspired by the local vernacular. The initial construction phase consisted of 13 cubes, each measuring 22.5 m x 22.5 m, with three different heights. This intentional arrangement gives the building a fluid, dynamic silhouette, setting the stage for the high-rise residential area to become a landmark in Tirana's architectural landscape.
