According to reports, after receiving the report, the police and fire department were on alert at the airport for a while, and the plane landed safely at 8:54 a.m., and no one was injured in the incident.
According to CCTV, on January 28, Cathay Pacific Airways said that a flight to the Philippines with flight number CX633 in the morning of the same day turned back due to a suspected smoke accident in the cabin and has landed safely at Hong Kong Airport.
A number of flights have been cancelled in recent days
According to media reports, Cathay Pacific has frequently canceled flights since mid-December 2023. At that time, Cathay Pacific responded that the pilot was absent from work more than expected due to illness, so he voluntarily canceled individual flights. According to the latest flight updates on the Airport Authority Hong Kong website, as of 5:00 p.m. on January 9, Cathay Pacific had a total of 9 arriving flights and 12 departing flights cancelled that day.
Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee said on the 9th that the SAR government is very concerned about the situation, and the Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Lam Sai-hung, has communicated with Cathay Pacific management.
Mr Lee said that in addition to expressing concern, the SAR Government also asked Cathay Pacific to make every effort to ensure that the inconvenience and loss of affected passengers are minimized, and that other flights, even those of other airlines, are arranged for passengers to take as many flights as possible. In addition, in the long run, Cathay Pacific needs to review the long-term development and arrangement of manpower and overall capacity.
In 2023, the passenger capacity will exceed 20 million
On January 24, Cathay Pacific released passenger and cargo traffic data for December 2023. In 2023, Cathay Pacific will carry more than 20 million passengers for the whole year, a significant increase from about 3 million passengers in 2022. In December 2023, Cathay Pacific carried about 1,779,500 passengers, an increase of 122.1% compared to the same month in 2022.
