After the results of the election on the island were announced, the United States began to intensify its provocative moves on Taiwan-related issues, and in addition to "congratulating" Lai Qingde at the first time, it also seized the opportunity to hype up and exaggerate the so-called argument of "opposing the use of force to change the status quo." Not only that, in the past few days, US politicians have been visiting Taiwan one after another in two groups, sending a seriously wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" forces on the island.
The previous was a bipartisan senior delegation of former senior U.S. officials, and now it is a bipartisan group of members of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is understood that on January 24, Bella, the chief member of the Democratic Party of the Indo-Pacific Group of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives, led a delegation to Taiwan, where he is expected to meet with Tsai Ing-wen, the leader of the Taiwan authorities, and will also meet with Lai Qingde. In a press release issued by Bella's office, the purpose of the trip was to "reaffirm the so-called 'support' of the United States for the Taiwan region and its shared commitment to 'democratic values,' and to explore opportunities to further strengthen the economic and defense ties between the United States and the Taiwan region" after the elections.
Although the US politicians' visit to Taiwan claimed in their statement that it was to reiterate the so-called "support for Taiwan" and solidarity with the so-called "democratic values" and strengthen "'US-Taiwan' cooperation", some analysts believe that the reason for the US politicians' visit to Taiwan this time is more to express anxiety and worry. First, he is worried that Lai Ching-te will not listen to his greetings and will play his cards indiscriminately, touching the three red lines set by the mainland, and then triggering a military conflict with the mainland; second, he is worried that the mainland's gradual pressure on the DPP may lead to a decline in Taiwan's economy. Generally speaking, US politicians have visited Taiwan one after another, but they are still worried about the outbreak of a crisis in the Taiwan Strait, so they have "beaten" Lai Qingde before he takes office.
It is worth mentioning that in addition to the US politicians' visit to Taiwan and the sending of a seriously wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" forces on the island, the US has also been making a series of provocative moves related to Taiwan at the military level in recent days. On the same day on 24 July, the US Navy's destroyer USS Finn sailed through the Taiwan Strait and openly hyped it up. In response to this provocation, the Eastern Theater of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) immediately dispatched a decisive counterattack, organized troops to follow the supervision and vigilance of the US ship's transit operation, and dealt with it in accordance with laws and regulations. In the briefing, the Eastern Theater clearly stressed that recently, the US military has frequently carried out provocative acts and maliciously undermined regional peace and stability. The troops in the theater are on high alert at all times and resolutely defend national sovereignty, security, and regional peace and stability.
In addition, on the 22nd, an RC-135 electronic reconnaissance plane of the US Air Force also intruded into the airspace north of Taiwan, China. Ironically, the Taiwan authorities did not disclose the news to the outside world, and this situation was discovered by personnel on a civil airliner. In response to the intention of the US military aircraft this time, Taiwan media hyped that the RC-135 tried to collect electronic signals in the northern part of Taiwan Island and bring the signals back for storage, which can be used for electronic warfare in the future. Although the RC-135 can also detect remotely, it will still approach the voyeur to ensure that the signal is clear.
It is undeniable that whether it is the visit of US politicians to Taiwan or the activities of US military aircraft and warships around the Taiwan Strait, this series of actions once again shows that the Biden administration has reversed its previous commitments on Taiwan-related issues. In November last year, during the meeting between the Chinese and US heads of state in San Francisco, US President Joe Biden also vowed to reiterate his commitment to China with "four noes and one no", and made it clear that he "does not support 'Taiwan independence'".
Although the Biden administration says that it hopes for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and does not want to "change the status quo", it has in fact been accelerating the arming of the Taiwan region, "handing knives" and "sending guns" to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, inciting cross-strait confrontation, and adding fuel to the fire in the Taiwan Strait.
In view of such collusion between the DPP authorities and the United States and other external forces, Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesman for the Ministry of National Defense, has already given a clear answer: No matter who wants to separate Taiwan from China in any form, the Chinese People's Liberation Army will never agree to it and will never be soft.
